2016 Free College Football Picks & Predictions – UNC @ Georgia, Clemson @ Auburn Saturday 9/3/16

North Carolina Tar Heels @ Georgia Bulldogs(LINE: Georgia -2.5, TOTAL: Over/Under 56.5) – Head coach Larry Fedora welcomes back 13 starters from last season’s impressive 11-3 Tar Heels team that finished 8-0 in ACC regular season play before losing to Clemson 45-37 in the ACC Title Game. The Tar Heels were explosive on offense last season averaging 40.7 points per game to finish 9th nationally and should once again be a high powered attack despite having to start a new quarterback in junior Mitch Trubisky. On the other side of the field, the Georgia Bulldogs come in with high expectations themselves this season as they start a new era under first year head coach Kirby Smart. Smart is a defensive mastermind and helped Nick Saban win national championships with dominant defenses at Alabama the last decade. Smart inherits 5 defensive starters from a unit that finished 8th nationally last season only allowing 16.9 ppg. Offensively, the Bulldogs have 8 starters returning from a unit that was awful last season as the 85th scoring offense in the land. We look for this matchup to be competitive throughout but we give the edge to Georgia playing in it’s backyard and having more talent defensively along with a defensive mastermind coaching it. Lay the points and take Georgia -2.5.

Free Pick: Georgia Bulldogs -2.5

Clemson Tigers @ Auburn Tigers(LINE: Clemson -7.5, TOTAL: Over/Under 62.5) – The Clemson Tigers fell just one game short of winning their 2nd national title in school history last season but have all the makings of another national title contender this season. Head coach Dabo Swinney has sensational junior quarterback Deshaun Watson back to lead a dynamic Tigers offense and Watson should be one of the Heisman Trophy favorites this season. Watson threw for 4104 yards and 35 touchdowns last season and has 7 starters returning around him including tons of skill position weapons to keep Clemson’s offense humming in 2016. Defensively, Clemson doesn’t get enough credit as they finished 10th in the nation in total defense last season and can hang and bang with the best of them. Auburn on the other hand is looking to bounce back from a brutal 7-6 season last year and we have our doubts whether they can keep this game competitive for 60 minutes. Auburn only returns 11 starters from last year’s squad and questions remain as to whether the offense will be much better than last year’s mediocre 94th rated national unit and defensively where the talent isn’t anything to get overly excited about. Take Clemson -7.5 in this game as they should roll.

Free Pick: Clemson Tigers -7.5
