2011 College Football Predictions: Georgia Bulldogs NCAA Football Predictions, Picks, Odds and Schedule

2011 Georgia Bulldogs College Football Expert Predictions, Picks, Vegas Odds and Schedule – Georgia Bulldogs NCAA Football Preview: Coming off an ugly 6-7 season, including a 10-6 loss in their bowl game, the Georgia Bulldogs need a rebound year to save the program’s reputation and head coach Mark Richt’s job. Fortunately for all parties involved, the Bulldogs return more than half their starters from last season and have a solid recruiting class coming aboard. Couple that with a manageable schedule, and Georgia has a chance to bounce back in a big way in 2011-12.

The Georgia offense should play a big role in the team’s revival, especially with quarterback Aaron Murray at the helm. He ranked as a top-15 passer nationally last season, throwing for more than 3,000 yards with a 3:1 touchdown to interception ratio. In fact, the argument can be made that Murray is the top signal caller in the SEC, especially in the SEC East. With Murray and his strong arm commanding Richt’s pro-style offense, the Bulldogs should be able to put up some points this season.

Granted, the offense does lose all-everything wide receiver A.J. Green, and the starting left tackle was lost for the year after suffering in an injury this offseason. Despite the lack of a go-to deep threat, Murray will have no problem spreading the ball around to the options that are available. Plus, he has reliable tight end Orson Charles to move the chains in must-have situations.

The X-factor this year will be true freshman running back Isaiah Crowell. The Georgia product was tabbed as the No. 1 back in this year’s class, and he should get a chance to start immediately. Inexperience aside, you don’t earn the title of top freshman rusher in the nation without having plenty of talent and athleticism to spare. Crowell will provide the perfect balance to Murray’s aerial assault, and the two could form a one-two punch that will have Bulldog fans smiling.

The Bulldogs aren’t exactly slouches defensively either. Seven starters are back from a unit that ranked in the top 25 nationally one year ago in terms of total yardage allowed. Georgia loses its most effective pass rusher from last season, but all four members of the secondary return. If the defense can just duplicate its numbers from a year ago, the offense just has to live up to its end of the bargain for the Bulldogs to have a strong season.

Schedule wise, the Bulldogs got a gift from the college football gods. Georgia somehow manages to avoid playing Alabama, LSU and Arkansas this season. The three toughest conference opponents the Bulldogs do face (South Carolina, Mississippi State and Florida) are all coming to Athens or a neutral site. The season opener against Boise State will be a tough matchup, but for a team that plays in the toughest conference in the nation, Georgia couldn’t ask for a better schedule.

The Bulldogs should be vastly improved this season, but the South Carolina Gamecocks look like the team to beat in the SEC East. That being said, the Bulldogs could still end up in the conference title game if the Gamecocks slip up twice in conference play. The opener against the Broncos has trouble written all over it, but Georgia should be in good shape otherwise. The Bulldogs likely fall just shy of a BCS bid, but they should have a strong year nonetheless.
