2021 March Madness Predictions – East Region Bracketology and Sleeper to Watch

The 2021 NCAA Tournament Bracket is out and the East Region is the one region that looks to be wide open. Let’s take a look at the favorites and a sleeper that could make a run at the Final Four. If you want our official bracket picks and predictions for every game thru the title game, check out our official March Madness picks page.

East Region Top Seeds

#1 Michigan Wolverines – The Wolverines won the Big Ten regular season title and come into the Big Dance with a 20-4 overall record. They lost 68-67 to Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals but that may have been a blessing in disguise. Head coach Juwan Howard will have them refocused and they will be more rested coming into Indianapolis.

#2 Alabama Crimson Tide – Head coach Nate Oats has the Bama program humming in just his 2nd season at the helm. Bama won the SEC Tournament in a thrilling 80-79 nail biter over LSU on Sunday as they improved to 24-6 overall on the season. An athletic and well coached squad, Bama is a team that is capable of coming out of the East if they play their A game.

#3 Texas Longhorns – Texas head coach Shaka Smart quieted most of his doubters this season as he led the Longhorns to a great season. The Horns finished 19-7 overall and won their first Big 12 Tournament title with a 91-86 win over Oklahoma State. Now Smart just has to win a couple NCAA Tournament games to really get the monkey off his back. He is 0-4 in his last 4 round of 64 games at Texas and VCU.

#4 Florida State Seminoles – Is this the year the Noles finally get back to the Final Four for the first time since 1972? They certainly have the talent to do it. Head coach Leonard Hamilton has built a consistent Top 20 program at FSU and this could be his best team yet. They lost the ACC Tournament title game to Georgia Tech but, like Michigan, that could help them make a deeper run in the Big Dance.

East Region Sleeper Special

#7 Connecticut Huskies – If any team outside the top 4 seeds above is to come out of the East Region and make the Final Four, Uconn is our top choice. They are well coached, play stout defense and have a big time scorer in James Bouknight who can put the team on his back and lead them on a special run like so many former great Uconn guards. Watch out for the Huskies if they win their first game vs Maryland.
