2021 March Madness Bracket Predictions – Midwest Region Favorites and Sleeper to Watch

2021 March Madness Bracketology – Midwest Region Favorites and Sleeper to Watch

The 2021 NCAA Tournament Bracket is out and the deepest and most competitive region in our eyes is definitely the Midwest Region. Illinois is the favorite and is the most talented team without a doubt. However, they will have their hands fill in this region. Check out our official March Madness picks page for our picks in every game all the way thru the National Championship on April 5th.

Midwest Region Top Seeds

#1 Illinois Fighting Illini – Illinois, along with Gonzaga and Baylor, are clearly the three most talented teams in this field. Without a doubt. The Fighting Illini proved they are the class of the Big Ten this season by winning the Big Ten Tournament on Sunday and come into this field on a roll. Illinois is well balanced and can bang, shoot, rebound, play defense, you name it. A tough team to beat.

#2 Houston Cougars –  Kevin Sampson can flat out coach can’t he? What he has done with Houston program has been remarkable. The Cougars finished 23-3 this season and crushed Cincinnati in the AAC Tournament title game 91-54. Houston plays lights out defense and can give teams fits taking them out of their game offensively. Don’t count Houston out in this region.

#3 West Virginia Mountaineers – This isn’t one of Bob Huggins’ best teams he’s had over the years but it’s still capable of going on a run in this field. The Mountaineers finished 18-9 on the season and had their share of ups and downs. Like with most Huggins teams over the years, this team can get bounced in the first round by a low seed or go on a deep run. Tough team to nail down.

#4 Oklahoma State Cowboys – The Cowboys might be the most dangerous team in this field. They are very talented and can beat anyone when they are on their A game. They took out Baylor in the Big 12 Tournament and showed what they are capable of. If they get to the Sweet 16 and play Illinois it could be the best game in this tournament before the Final Four matchups. Don’t toss Oklahoma State from your bracket early. They are too talented.

Midwest Region Sleeper Special

#6 San Diego State Aztecs – The Aztecs are very good. They are under seeded in our eyes as they are better than seeds above them like #4 seed Purdue, #5 seed Creighton and #5 seed Villanova. Without question. San Diego State plays great defense and can go on a deep run in this region. Of course, they will have to survive a tough first round draw against Syracuse first.
