The biggest fight of the year and in a long time is set to go down inside the T-Mobile Arena right off the Las Vegas strip in Sin City on Saturday, August 26th. Floyd Mayweather Jr. will put his unblemished 49-0 career overall record on the line against UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor in McGregor’s first ever professional boxing bout. The question we have been getting asked a lot by our clients and the question we have been hearing asked a lot nationally is, “Can McGregor really win this fight?”. We will do our best to analyze the chances McGregor really has in this fight and whether this fight will be worth the $100 pay-per-view price or if it will be an absolute dud like the Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao snooze fest in 2015. That fight failed to live up to the hype and many are forecasting the Mayweather-McGregor fight to be just like it. Let’s take a look.

Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor Fight Odds & Prediction – Can McGregor Win the Fight?

Conor McGregor is arguably the biggest star in UFC right now and if you don’t believe us, just ask him. Yes, indeed, McGregor is probably the biggest shit talker and most cocky fighter in the fight world. That’s saying something with the amount of cocky fighters in the UFC and professional Boxing including his opponent in this fight, Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. McGregor talks the talk but does a great job backing it up and walking the walk.

McGregor enters this fight confident he can beat Mayweather after taking on all comers in the UFC and posting a career overall MMA record of 21 wins and 3 losses. He has won 18 of his UFC fights by knockout, 1 by submission and 2 by decision. His 3 career UFC losses have all come by submission and he has never been knocked out.

The question bettors, handicappers, fight fans and interested pay-per-view buyers want to know is, “Can McGregor really win this fight”? Our answer is, yes. Does that mean he will? More on that below.

The odds makers have Mayweather listed as a strong -400 favorite to win the fight at Bovada Sportsbook with McGregor getting +300 underdog odds. A lot of the early money coming in at top UK Sportsbook, Intertops Sportsbook, came in on McGregor to the tune of 85%. However, money has been coming in more on Mayweather of late globally and especially in Las Vegas.

When we first previewed this fight and made our official McGregor vs Mayweather fight prediction we picked Mayweather Jr. and stated it would be “easy”. We still feel that way but our attitude has changed in terms of giving McGregor a shot at pulling off one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.

We are giving McGregor a chance at winning this fight for two reasons. First, he is young, powerful and has a strong chin. McGregor can hurt Mayweather if he’s able to land some head shots. Make no mistake about it. Everyone talks about Pacquiao not being able to hurt Mayweather but Pacquiao was damaged goods by the time he got in the ring with Floyd. McGregor is in his prime with a proven strong chin and he won’t be afraid to risk getting hit by Mayweather while trying to make this fight a blood bath.

The second reason we think McGregor has a “puncher’s chance” in this fight is Mayweather’s age. Sure, Floyd is in tremendous physical shape for a 40 year-old but that does not mean his quickness is the same as it was 2 years ago in his last fight against Andre Berto on September 12, 2015 and it also doesn’t mean he has the stamina to last 12 full rounds with a tough puncher like McGregor. Mayweather has not fought a guy that punches as hard as McGregor in a long time.

In closing, make no mistake, our money is going down on Floyd Mayweather Jr to win this fight by decision. No, we do not think Mayweather can knock out McGregor and we don’t think McGregor will be able to win by decision either. This fight is either a Mayweather win by decision or a McGregor shocker win by knockout. McGregor has a legitimate chance because of his striking power and the people acting like he has no chance whatsoever are going to be surprised by how tough McGregor competes in this fight. However, when it’s all said and done, “Money” Mayweather moves his record to a clean 50-0. Book it. Bet it. Enjoy the fight!
