The 17th ranked West Virginia Mountaineers come into the 2018 season with high expectations as they have 7 starters back on an offensive unit that promises to be one of the top units in the entire country. Senior quarterback Will Grier is back to lead a unit that finished 22nd in the nation in scoring average last year at 34.5 points per game. Grier tossed for 3490 yards and 34 touchdowns and is fully healthy after breaking his finger in a late season loss to Texas last fall.

West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorson has to be excited for the amount of talent he has to work with this season in Morgantown as he heads into his 8th year as head coach of the program. Holgorson’s team finished just 7-6 overall including three losses in it’s final three games as it was not able to overcome the injury to Grier. Don’t expect a late season collapse again this season if Grier stays healthy as the Mountaineers have the talent to compete for the Big 12 Championship this season.

The Tennessee Volunteers hired Jeremy Pruitt to lead the program after seemingly getting turned down by every one of their top choices along the way. The once dominant Vols program has fallen on hard times over the past handful of years and are coming off of a 5-7 overall record including just 2-6 in the SEC last year.

Tennessee has just 10 starters back from last year’s squad and are firmly in rebuilding mode this season as it will take some time for them to move up the ladder in the always tough SEC. The Vols have 4 starters back from a putrid offensive unit that finished just 118th in the nation in scoring last season at 19.8 points per game. They didn’t fare much better defensively as they finished just 83rd nationally in scoring defense at 29.1 points per game and have 6 starters back from that unit. Don’t expect much from either side of the ball this season as it’s going to take Pruitt at least a couple more recruiting classes to get this program turned around in our eyes.

West Virginia vs Tennessee Free Pick and Score Prediction: West Virginia to cover as a -10 point favorite.
