Churchill Downs is a gorgeous, legendary thoroughbred racetrack located in Louisville, Kentucky. It is world famous for hosting the Kentucky Derby, the most watched and wagered on horse race annually in the United States. The track is also popular for it’s annual spring and fall meets. The spring meet runs starts one week before the Kentucky Derby in May and runs until early July. The fall meet runs from late October and closes on Thanksgiving weekend.
Churchill Downs opened in 1875 and is host to many GRADE I, II and III races annually. The Kentucky Derby is the most iconic but other GRADE I races at Churchill Downs include the Kentucky Oaks, Clark Handicap, Churchill Downs Stakes, La Troienne Stakes, Turf Classic Stakes and Humana Distaff Stakes. The main oval dirt track the Kentucky Derby is run on is 1 1/4 mile and 1 mile in circumference, while the turf track inside is 7/8 mile in circumference.

I’ve been lucky enough to witness legends like Affirmed, Seattle Slew, Barbaro, American Pharoah and Justify win the Kentucky Derby on these sacred grounds. There is nothing like this place. I get goose bumps as soon as I walk in this place. Having said all that, I don’t do this for nostalgia and feel good stories. I work hard every day handicapping horse racing to MAKE MONEY! And, best believe, I make a lot of it at Churchill Downs. The best horses, jockeys and trainers make their names at this track. So do I.
