2019 NFC Championship Game Betting Preview – Los Angeles Rams @ New Orleans Saints

The Los Angeles Rams are coming into this NFC Title Game with a 14-3 overall record after beating the Dallas Cowboys 30-22 last Saturday at home in the NFC Playoffs Divisional Round. The Rams covered the -7 point spread and are now 8-8-1 against the spread this season. The game went over the posted total of 48 points and the Rams have now gone over 9 games and under in 8 games this season.

The Rams have been one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl all season and looked the part last week against the Cowboys. The Rams fell behind 7-3 after the 1st quarter but took control of the game by outscoring Dallas 17-0 in the 2nd quarter to take a 20-7 lead into halftime. The Rams never relinquished the lead and the game really wasn’t as close as the final score would indicate.

The Rams are known for their high powered offense and it didn’t disappoint against Dallas. Rams head coach Sean McVay is arguably the best offensive mind in the game and he had the Rams cooking last Saturday. The Rams ground game rushed for 273 yards on 48 carries while scoring all 3 of the Rams touchdowns. C.J. Anderson rushed for 123 yards on 23 carries and 2 touchdowns while Todd Gurley added 115 yards rushing on 16 carries and a touchdown. Rams quarterback Jared Goff finished 15 for 28 with just 186 yards passing but did not turn the ball over.

On the other side of the field, the New Orleans Saints come into this game also 14-3 overall after beating the Philadelphia Eagles 20-14 last Sunday at home. The Saints had to sweat a little for the win as they fell behind 14-0 in the 1st quarter before outscoring the Eagles 20-0 the rest of the way to pull out the win. The Saints failed to cover the -8 point spread and are now 10-7 against the spread. The total went under the 52 point total and the Saints have now gone under in 10 games and over in 7 games this season.

The Saints only mustered up 20 points against the Eagles but they had a pretty balanced attack. The offense rushed for 137 yards on 31 carries while quarterback Drew Brees connected on 28 of his 38 pass attempts for 301 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Saints defense was the real story, however, as they picked off Eagles quarterback Nick Foles two times including a game sealing interception in the final minutes as the Eagles were driving for the game winning score.

Saints head coach Sean Payton has his team on the brink of their 2nd Super Bowl appearance in his tenure and they have to feel confident going up against a Rams team that they handled 45-35 at home back on November 4th. The Saints jumped out to a 35-17 halftime lead in that one but had to sweat a little after the Rams stormed back to tie it up 35-35 in the 4th quarter.
