2017-18 NBA Eastern Conference Championship Odds after Kyrie Irving Trade to the Celtics

2017-18 NBA Eastern Conference Championship Odds after Kyrie Irving Trade to the Celtics: The NBA world was buzzing last night with the mega trade that saw superstar point guard Kyrie Irving traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Boston Celtics in exchange for all star point guard Isaiah Thomas, forward Jae Crowder, center Ante Zizic and the 2018 1st round pick from the Brooklyn Nets(via Boston). The impact of this rare mega trade this late in the summer before the start of the NBA season has moved the odds to win the 2018 NBA Eastern Conference Championship at Bovada Sportsbook. The Cleveland Cavaliers saw their odds get worse from -200 to win the East this 2017-18 NBA season to -160 and the Boston Celtics saw their odds to win the East improve from +240 to +200 at Bovada.

2017-18 NBA Eastern Conference Championship Odds after Kyrie Irving Trade to the Celtics

The trade from the Celtics perspective for Kyrie Irving is a no brainer in our opinion. Celtics general manager Danny Ainge has done a remarkable job of stockpiling future NBA 1st round picks since he decided to deal Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce back in 2013 to the Nets for three unprotected future 1st round picks. The Celtics have been in constant trade rumors for almost every NBA star that has went on the trading block the past few years because of their treasure trove of “assets” but were never quite able to pull the trigger on one. That all changed in a big time way last night.

The Celtics are getting a flat out superstar in his prime at only 25 years-old in Irving. The former #1 overall pick out of Duke has been a four-time NBA All Star, NBA Champion, All Star Game MVP and Olympic Gold medalist in his young career so far. He should be able to take his game to even higher heights in Boston under head coach Brad Stevens who will be Irving’s best NBA head coach by far in his career.

Pairing with new Boston Celtic free agent signee Gordon Hayward and veteran big man Al Horford, Irving now has the luxury of being the man on his own team along with a very good supporting cast that will help him shine. Add to the mix the Celtics 1st round pick in this last NBA Draft, forward Jayson Tatum, and last year’s 1st round Celtics draftee, guard Jaylen Brown, and the sky is the limit for the Celtics as they look to become the new beasts of the East.

What about Cleveland? The Cavaliers are still the favorites to win the East this 2017-18 because they still have the best player in the world, superstar Lebron James. James and Irving apparently had a falling out that left the relationship beyond repair and is the reason why Irving shocked the NBA world by requesting a trade out of Cleveland this summer.

The good news for James is Cleveland got a great return for Irving as Thomas is one of the elite scorers from the point guard position in the NBA and should be even more dangerous playing in Cleveland as opposing defenses will be gunning to stop Lebron and forward Kevin Love and not just Thomas. Add Crowder into the mix off the bench with solid defense and scoring ability and the Cavs could quite possibly be even better this season and especially by the time the playoffs roll around.

The prized jewel of the haul for Cavaliers management was the inclusion of the Nets 2018 NBA Draft pick in the 1st round from Boston. The Nets were the worst team in the NBA last season and that helped land the Celtics with the #1 overall draft choice in this past NBA Draft. If the Nets are even close to being as bad this season, Cleveland will find themselves with a top 3-5 pick in a stacked 2018 NBA Draft that’s loaded with talented big men.

Who do we like to win the NBA Eastern Conference this season? It’s still too early to make a prediction as there’s no telling if there will be any more moves from Cleveland or Boston. Time will tell.
