NFL Picks and Predictions: 2012 Offensive All-Rookie Team

NFL Picks and Predictions: 2012 All-Rookie Team (Offense): The 2012 NFL regular season officially in the books, and there were plenty of storylines to follow throughout the year. In particular, the season was highlighted by one of the greatest rookie crops in NFL history. Heck, three rookie quarterbacks took their teams to the playoffs this year, and two running backs went over 1,400 yards. Not surprisingly, naming an All-Rookie team on the offensive side of the ball was tough given the competition. That being said, here are my picks.

NFL Picks and Predictions: 2012 All-Rookie Team (Offense)

Quarterback: Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts

By the numbers alone, you can make a strong case for Robert Griffin III or Russell Wilson. However, the quarterback position is all about winning games, and Luck turned a 2-14 Indianapolis team into an 11-5 playoff team this year. The nine-win turnaround was by far the most for any of the rookie QBs this season and was actually the second best in league history. To be fair, Luck also set a new rookie record for passing yards and led all rookies in passes of 20-plus yards and 40-plus yards. The Colts put their franchise on the shoulders of Luck, and he responded by taking them to the postseason.

Running Back: Alfred Morris, Washington Redskins

Morris was a workhorse for the top-ranked ground game this year. He led all rookie rushers with 1,613 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, and he actually finished second in the entire NFL in rushing yards. Morris also led all rookies with 83 rushes for first downs, bolstering his status as the most consistent and steady of the rookie backs this season.

Wide Receiver: Justin Blackmon, Jacksonville Jaguars

After looking like a bust early in the year, Blackmon started producing the minute Chad Henne replaced Blaine Gabbert under center in Jacksonville. In fact, he ended up leading all rookies with 64 receptions and 865 yards. Blackmon also finished second among rookies with five touchdowns.

Wide Receiver: T.Y. Hilton, Indianapolis Colts

He finished second among rookies with 861 receiving yards and established himself as the most explosive of the first-year players. He led all rookies with seven touchdowns and a 17.2 yards per catch average. He also led all rookies with 13 catches of 20-plus yards and five catches of 40-plus yards. Last but not least, Hilton was fourth among rookies with 50 catches.

Tight End: Dwayne Allen, Indianapolis Colts

Allen clobbered a thin field, leading all rookie tight ends in catches, yards and touchdowns. He was also one of the more explosive tight ends in general, finishing ninth at the position in catches of 20-plus yards. All in all, it was a solid rookie year for Allen.

Kicker: Blair Walsh, Minnesota Vikings

Not only was Walsh the best rookie kicker this year, he was probably the best in the NFL. He connected on a league-high 35 field goals on 38 attempts, finishing with the second-best success rate. Walsh also set an NFL record by going a perfect 10-for-10 on field goals of 50-plus yards this season.

Kick Returner: David Wilson, New York Giants

Although fumble issues left him out of the New York backfield much of the season, it didn’t stop him from dominating as a kick returner. Wilson led all rookies with 1,533 kickoff return yards and a 26.9 average. Not to mention the fact that Wilson’s 1,533 yards were also the most of any player in the NFL this season.
