2015 NFL Picks and Predictions: NFL Draft Recap – Top 5 Biggest Winners

2015 NFL Picks and Predictions: NFL Draft Recap – Top 5 Biggest Winners With the 2015 NFL Draft in the books and rookie minicamps underway, it is time to take a closer look at the teams that did the most to improve their chances of winning both for next season and beyond. Some teams may have acquired the one or two players that could push them into playoff contention while others have assembled the groundwork to become a future contender. Either way, here is a closer look at the biggest winners of the 2015 NFL Draft.

  1. Baltimore Ravens

There is a reason the Ravens always seem to be in the playoffs, and it is because they consistently reload in the draft as well as any franchise in the NFL, and this year was no exception. Breshad Perriman will jump right in to replace Torrey Smith as the team’s deep threat, and the injury Dennis Pitta is a lot less of a concern now that Maxx Williams has been added to the mix. Throw in a few starting-caliber players along the defensive front, and Baltimore should offset the loss of Haloti Ngata with improved depth. After plugging their biggest holes, the Ravens should be a factor in the AFC yet again in 2015.

  1. Atlanta Falcons

New head coach Dan Quinn wasted no time upgrading Atlanta’s roster on both sides of the ball in his first draft. Vic Beasley gives the Falcons a dynamic edge-rusher that will certainly boast what has been an awful pass rush. Meanwhile, Jalen Collins has the long, athletic build that Quinn looks for in a cornerback, and he will help out a suspect secondary immediately. On the offensive side of the ball, running back Tevin Coleman will provide a true workhorse back to keep defenses from focusing only on Matt Ryan and the passing attack. Atlanta is just a few years removed from being one of the better teams in the league, and in the lowly NFC South, this draft could turn things around in a hurry.

  1. St Louis Rams

Head coach Jeff Fisher has been building the Rams into a power-running, defensive-minded team, and this year’s draft should complete the process. St. Louis snagged a sledgehammer of a running in Todd Gurley in the first, and the Rams followed by adding some more size and muscle along the offensive line. Throw in last year’s first-round pick in Greg Robinson, and the Rams are going to be able to physically punish teams on both sides of the ball. If newly acquired quarterback Nick Foles plays decent football, St. Louis could be a playoff team.

  1. Tennessee Titans

Although Marcus Mariota will have a bit of an adjustment period, he wasn’t one of the most efficient passers in college football history purely because of the system he played in. Plus, he will be joining a young offensive nucleus that has a chance to make some noise in the near future. In addition to the early-round picks along the offensive line and at receiver, the Titans also added athletically-gifted receiver Dorial Green-Beckham at a discount because of his off-field issues and bolstered the backfield with David Cobb. No, the Titans aren’t a playoff team next year, but they have a chance to make a serious leap in the next couple of years after this draft.

  1. New York Jets

The Jets already boasted a solid defense, and then a gift fell into their lap when USC’s Leonard Williams was still sitting there at No. 6. Williams was considered the best-overall prospect in the draft by many scouts, and he will make a stout defensive front even scarier. The Jets also added a much-needed playmaker in the passing game in Devin Smith, giving New York a deep threat that can actually catch the ball. Quarterback Bryce Petty was a sneaky add later in the draft, and he has all the tools to develop into a solid NFL starter and could serve as an insurance policy if Geno Smith is unable to make any progress. If the Jets can get anything that resembles decent quarterback play, their defense could do the rest.
