2012 Ford EcoBoost 400 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Ford EcoBoost 400 Favorites and Sleepers to Win at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida: After 10 long months of racing, the 2012 Cup Series season comes to an end this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Brad Keselowski is in the driver’s seat as far the championship goes, but nothing is set in stone until the checkered flag waves Sunday. For the rest of the drivers, Sunday’s race is their last chance to get to Victory Lane until next February at Daytona. It can be a long offseason for all the teams that didn’t win or at least make a run for the championship, but closing the year with a win can erase a lot of the disappointment.

Auto Racing

Last season’s race at Homestead will go down as one of the clutch performances in NASCAR history. Tony Stewart overcame early damage to his front end and a pair of poor pit stops to take the lead late in the race. He then held off Carl Edwards for more than 30 laps to win the race and move into a tie with Edwards in the standings. By virtue of his five victories, Stewart was awarded the championship in the first-ever tiebreaker. Stewart had to win the race to win the title, and he did just that.

The Favorites

A cut tire basically ended his championship hopes last weekend, but Jimmie Johnson is the type of driver that won’t go down without a fight. He has finished second at Homestead on two separate occasions and has finished in the top five in two of his last three starts at the track. Johnson has clinched titles at Homestead five times, and while he needs help to win No. 6, he will certainly put as much pressure on the point leader as possible by having a strong showing Sunday.

Bad luck has slowed him down in recent starts at Homestead, but there is no denying that Greg Biffle knows how to get around the 1.5-mile track. After all, he is just one of two drivers that have three career wins at Homestead, and he picked up his victories in consecutive fashion from 2004 to 2006. Biffle hasn’t been back to Victory Lane since his three-peat, but  he could easily change that this weekend.

The Dark Horses

He delivered as one of my dark horses last weekend at Phoenix, and Kevin Harvick could do the same Sunday at Homestead. After all, he has nine top-10 finishes in 11 starts at the track and has finished third or better in three of his last four starts. Harvick went 44 races before winning last weekend, but he could up ending the year with back-to-back wins.

Although he is winless in 2012 and has been arguably the biggest disappointment, but Carl Edwards could still end the season on a high note. His 5.3 average finish at Homestead is the best in the series, and he has finished in the top 10 in his last seven starts at the track. Edwards has been even better recently, picking up two wins and a second-place finish in his last four starts at Homestead.

Sleeper Special

Homestead is probably the best track on the schedule for Martin Truex Jr. He has finished 11th or better in six straight starts at the track and has a 6.8 average finish during the stretch. Truex finished third at Homestead last fall and has led plenty of laps on numerous occasions. He has never been able to seal the deal, but he could change that this weekend.

Big Name to Avoid

Barring a disaster at Homestead, Brad Keselowski is going to win the championship. However, his 20-point lead in the standings is also going to allow him to race very conservatively Sunday. Not only does he not have to win the race to clinch the title, he doesn’t even have to finish in the top 10. Keselowski isn’t going to take any risks, and he isn’t going to race any driver harder than he has to.
