2007 NFL Mock Draft By Ringo Dalewood(Posted on 3/14/2007) from BetUS Sportsbook and Casino
The NFL is going through an enormous shakedown this offseason. Even Jamal Lewis has a new home in Cleveland, and fantasy fiends are watering at the mouth with Willis McGahee traveling east to Baltimore. While NFL front-offices swap, sign and deal, it is time for BetUS.com to finally deliver its first NFL Mock Draft for 2007.
Keep in mind that this draft will undergo many facelifts as we get closer to the April 28th draft date. For now, however, this is how the first round of the NFL draft is shaping up. And, don’t worry – we will provide you some nuggets on where your favorite late rounders, like Chris Leak and Troy Smith, will end up!
1. Oakland Raiders (2-14) +15000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: JaMarcus Russell (QB – LSU)
Al Davis is still calling the shots here, and he will undoubtedly fall in love with Russell’s arm strength, decision making and size. At 6-foot-5½ and 255 lbs., the Sugar Bowl-winning quarterback can surely take a beating behind a still-tattered Raiders offensive line.
2. Detroit (3-13) +15000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Joe Thomas (OT – Wisconsin)
Brady Quinn could very well go to the Lions with this pick, and I would not be surprised if Millen confounds everyone by calling his name on draft day. But the smart pick here is Joe Thomas, who can step in right away and help a terrible offensive-line make room for Kevin Jones and the newly acquired Tatum Bell.
3. Cleveland (4-12) +10000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Brady Quinn (QB – Notre Dame)
Quinn rockets up the board to Cleveland, largely due to the acquisition of running-back Jamal Lewis. The Browns could still go with Adrian Peterson out of Oklahoma, but Quinn is an obvious upgrade over current starter Charlie Frye. Cleveland is looking to be competitive this season, and they have strong offensive weapons with Lewis, Kellen Winslow Jr. at tight-end and Braylon Edwards at receiver. Quinn is the missing piece.
4. Tampa Bay (4-12) +8000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Calvin Johnson (WR – Georgia Tech)
So many needs, so few draft picks. The Bucs would love to take defensive-ends Gaines Adams or Jamaal Anderson with the number four pick, but Johnson is a freak of an athlete (and that’s an understatement!). With receiver Michael Clayton looking nothing like a number two receiver, Johnson be the sparkplug the Tampa offense absolutely and desperately needs.
5. Arizona (5-11) +6000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Jamaal Anderson (DE – Arkansas)
Arizona’s offensive line needs fine-tuning, but the rest of their offense is virtually set. Where they need help is on defense, and they will take the best defensive player available. Most have Gaines Adams rated ahead of Jamaal Anderson, but I rate Anderson as the more aggressive athlete. Anyone who has seen him slaughter quarterbacks will be hard-pressed to disagree.
6. Washington (5-11) +4500 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Gaines Adams (DE – Clemson)
Same as Arizona. They have a good, young offense and J-Cam is going to be a solid quarterback. So, they are going to go after the best defensive playmaker on the board, and that will be either Gaines Adams or Jamaal Anderson. Either way, Arizona and Washington are going to be happy campers come draft day.
7. Minnesota (6-10) +6000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Ted Ginn Jr. (WR/RS – Ohio State)
Ginn takes a backseat to no one in the speed department. Minnesota will be intrigued if Peterson is still on the board, but Chester Taylor played exceptional for them last season at tailback. Look for them to shore up the receiver position, which has been a problem area since Randy Moss left.
8. Houston (6-10) +10000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Adrian Peterson (RB – Oklahoma)
They may have signed Ahman Green, but the guy is thirty (and no I’m not simply referring to his jersey number). The dynamic runner had somewhat of a comeback season, but Peterson is an explosive playmaker with genius ankles. Playing behind Green will give Houston a strong committee backfield that will be a step in the right direction, since they passed on Bush last year.
Word out of Texas is that Brady Quinn is the man that Kubiak wants. Still, Jake Plummer is floating out there and is familiar with Kubiak’s system from their Denver Days. This No. 8 pick is the most interesting of all the picks in the first round.
9. Miami (6-10) +5000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Alan Branch (DT – Michigan)
Miami has a couple options here, but adding the 6-foot-5, 330 pound defensive tackle would give Miami one of the scariest defensive lines in the league. Branch is a space-eating, run-stuffer with the agility to play in multiple systems. Couple him with Joey Porter and Jason Taylor and you have a terrifying line-up.
10. Atlanta (7-9) +4000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: LaRon Landry (DS – LSU)
The Falcons were miserable at the safety position, and Landry tested off the charts at the combine. He is a highly competitive athlete who loves to come up and stuff the run as well as wreak havoc in the secondary. Landry’s killer instinct and hard-nosed attitude will fit perfectly in Atlanta.

11. San Francisco (7-9) +4000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Dwayne Bowe (WR – LSU)
LSU just keeps on coming! Bowe will battle Dwayne Jarrett for the eleventh overall pick as San Fran will look to add a receiver who can compliment Vernon Davis’ exceptional skills. Bowe is a better prospect then Jarrett at the moment, and at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds with speed, is an athlete who can step in and immediately contribute to this team.
12. Buffalo (7-9) +6000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Leon Hall (CB – Michigan)
Buffalo lost their star cornerback, Nate Clements, to free-agency and will seek to replace him in the draft. Hall is getting beat up in analysis because of his poor combine numbers. But all you have to do is turn on the game tape to see that this kid can ball with the best of them. He fits a need in Buffalo as they look to rebuild their entire team.
13. St. Louis (8-8) +5000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Amobi Okoye (DT – Louisville)
Okoye is a good fit for the Rams, who need to strengthen their interior defense as their division racks up solid runners. Okoye may be only 19 years old, but he is huge, powerful and plays with incredible instincts. He will need some grooming before he can be a full-time starter, but the Rams will find it difficult to pass on a kid with his measurables.
14. Carolina (8-8) +2000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Reggie Nelson (DS – Florida)
Nelson has improved his draft stock dramatically by having a huge pro-day. Scouts are falling in love with his game tapes, and he even has the stamp of approval from Deion Sanders himself. The Panthers love taking safeties in the first round, but Nelson is the type of player this defense needs to help support an aging defensive-line.
15. Pittsburgh (8-8) +1600 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Jarvis Moss (DE – Florida)
Moss helped his stock by having a good pro-day. The Steelers would love to take a strong line-backer at this point, but the draft is deep and they will help to score one later. Right now, they need to replace Joey Porter, and Jarvis Moss is a near-perfect fit for the Steelers’ 3-4 scheme.
16. Green Bay (8-8) +6000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Marshawn Lynch (RB – Cal)
Lynch is a near lock for Green Bay at sixteen. No team above them is in desperate need for a running-back. Do not be surprised if Lynch is the offensive rookie of the year. Then again, many thought that about A.J. Hawk.
17. Jacksonville (8-8) +3000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Dwayne Jarrett (WR – USC)
The Jaguars have a tough decision to make. Dwayne Jarrett will be available, but they could also go with a defensive player to add depth. I say they are going to go after an offensive playmaker. Their defense is too stout enough as is.
18. Cincinnati (8-8) +1400 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Darrelle Revis (DC/RS – Pittsburgh)
Cincinnati does not have many pressing needs, but they will take the best defensive prospect available. Revis is a great prospect, who may be better suited to free-safety. The Bengals will surely find good use for his athleticism.
19. Tennessee (8-8) +4000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Robert Meachem (WR – Tennessee)
Meachem would be a great pick-up to help Vince Young’s development. Besides being a homegrown talent, Meachem possess great hand-eye coordination and is a big-bodied receiver. Young needs a playmaker, and the Titans are going to find him one in the first round.
20. NY Giants (8-8) +3000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Aaron Ross, (DC/RS – Texas)
The Giants are going to go after the best defensive player left on the board, and Ross is the cover corner that they need. This is one of those teams that will look to fill a need.
21. Denver (9-7) +1800 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Adam Carriker (DE – Nebraska)
Shanahan needs a defensive-end above all in this draft. Carriker is the next best end after Gaines and Adams. He has good size at 290 pounds, and is a relentless pass-rusher.
22. Dallas (9-7) +2000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Daymeion Hughes (CB – Cal)
Hughes lacks the speed Dallas needs on defense, but he will be the best cover corner available when the 22nd pick rolls around. He impressed many at the Senior Bowl, and has solid game tape, but his measurables (speed and size) leave something to be desired.
23. Kansas City (9-7) +4000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Sidney Rice (WR – South Carolina)
The Chiefs need a playmaker on offense. Eddie Kennison is not a standout number one option and Tony Gonzalez is entering his twilight years. Sidney Rice has exceptional size and great hands. Trent Green, as long as he stays in KC, will be able to make the most of this receivers size. Rice lacks speed, and could add some pounds, but he will be an immediate impact player for KC.
24. New England (from Seattle) +750 to win Super Bowl XLII Projected Pick: Chris Houston (CB – Arkansas)
Since signing line-backer Adalius Thomas, the Patriots most pressing need is adding speed to the secondary. Houston will be the best corner available, but it is never easy to assume what Belichik is looking for in a player. Houston fits the mold and has what it takes to help repair a New England secondary that was susceptible to the pass last year.
25. NY Jets (10-6) +3000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Josh Wilson (CB – Maryland
Wilson has all the speed and instincts to be a good cornerback in the league. He shows great toughness even though people say he is relatively undersized. Tell that to Colts’ safety Bob Sanders. Though Wilson has to prove himself, the Jets will jump at the chance to acquire this speedy cover corner.
26. Philadelphia (10-6) +1500 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Anthony Spencer (DE – Purdue)
Spencer had an outstanding season as a senior, and he could be the boost on the defensive line that Philadelphia needs. The Eagles will look to see who is available at receiver with this pick, but with nobody worth taking in the first round, Spencer will be their man.
27. New Orleans (10-6) +1400 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Tarell Brown (CB – Texas)
The Saints will need to pick up the best cover corner available. Brown is a big stretch in the first round, but he comes from Texas, which produces great secondary players. The Saints will be looking to see how Brown tests out on pro day, but look for him to sneak in to the first round.
28. New England (12-4) +750 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Lawrence Timmons (OLB – FSU)
Simply put, Timmons tests off the map. If Timmons falls this far, which is likely considering the needs of other teams, New England would love to acquire Timmons who is powerful, versatile and high-impact defensive player.
29. Baltimore (13-3) +1400 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Ryan Kalil (OC – USC)
Kalil did wonders for himself at the combine, and people are falling in love with his personality and work ethic. Baltimore needs to add to their aging offensive line, and Kalil can step in immediately if required to.
30. San Diego (14-2) +600 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Anthony Gonzalez (WR – Ohio State)
The Bolts need help at wide-out. Now, which type of receiver they need is in question. They already possess speed, but they need a proven playmaker who can spread the field and take the pressure off of Antonio Gates. Gonzalez has impressed at the combine, but looking at the game tape will improve his stock. Craig Davis from LSU is another choice here. I would be very surprised if they did not take a receiver with the 30th pick.
31. Chicago (13-3) +1000 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Paul Posluszny (OLB – Penn State)
Posluszny is a sick athlete, despite his mediocre senior season. He has a relentless work ethic, and has a good head on his shoulders. If Briggs is dealt in a trade, the Bears would love to acquire this vicious tackler.
32.Indianapolis (12-4) +550 to win Super Bowl XLII
Projected Pick: Justin Harrell (DT – Tennessee)
Harrell is recovering from a biceps tear, but he is still quite the specimen. He is quick and aggressive and should do much to shore up the horrid rush defense of the Colts.
