Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith vs Tarec Saffiedine

Former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith (18-8, 1 NC) has now made a home in the welterweight division. Smith has lost three of his last four fights which includes his most recent loss to Paul Daley by a vicious knockout in the first round. Smith will stand and bang with anyone and has devastating knockout power in his hands.

Tarec Saffiedine (10-3) started professional fighting in March of 2003 and has shown well rounded skills in all his fights. He showed very good jiu-jitsu early in his career finishing five of his first six wins by submission. Since then he has shown good striking from the outside keeping his opponents at bay and winning the majority of his fights by decision.

There is going to be a very distinct clash of philosophies in this fight. Smith (+200) is going to wade forward throughout the fight trying to land bombs to put Saffiedine to sleep. On the other hand Saffiedine (-260) is going to look to stick and move and take the fight to the ground to land strikes from the top. Saffiedine is going to be able to avoid the one punch knockout power of Smith, pepper in his own shots and land effective strikes from the top position. Bettors can expect Saffiedine taking this fight with superior technique.

Paul “Semtex” Daley vs Tyron Woodley

Showing that he is a legit contender with his fight against Nick Diaz and nearly finishing the fight on two occasions Paul “Semtex” Daley (27-10-2) is looking to get back in the title picture. Winner of his last eight of ten and finishing all of the wins Daley was running through the welterweight division until he met Nick Diaz. Daley wants to get back to his winning ways and climb back up the crowded 170 pound weight class ladder.

Tyron Woodley (8-0) has a perfect MMA record finishing five of the eight fights by submission. Woodley has a strong wrestling background as a amateur wrestler for the University of Missouri. He showed he could neutralize a strong striker in his fight with Tarec Saffiedine where he kept him on the mat and cage for the majority of the fight. Woodley will look to impose the same strategy in this fight.

This is going to be a fight that can end violently and abruptly with the power Daley (+180) possess. It also could turn into a 15 minute grappling match if Woodley (-240) is able to impose his will. The difference in this fight is that Daley also has a strong wrestling background and is going to be able to keep this fight on its feet. Daley has shown he can pick guys apart on the feet and it’s even better documented that he can end a fight with one swing. Daley will keep this fight upright and end it in dramatic fashion.

“Ruthless” Robbie Lawler vs Tim Kennedy

“Ruthless” Robbie Lawler (18-7, 1 NC) has reached an unusual point in his career. He is 2-3 in his last five fights and was finished with chokes in two of those loses. The last time he was able to string together wins was in 2008 and he got finished by Jake Shields in the first round. Lawler likes to keep fights standing and use his crushing power to knock his opponents out.

Finishing his last four wins by submission Tim Kennedy (13-3) has gone 4-1 in his time with Strikeforce. More impressive than his four finishes is that Kennedy was a Ranger qualified Special Forces sniper in the U.S. military. Obviously cool under pressure he mixes his excellent jiu-jitsu with quick striking.

This is another fight that is going to mix grappler and striker. Lawler (+180) has notoriously been a fighter that strictly looks to stand and find an opening to knock his opponent out. Kennedy (-240) does a better job of mixing up his grappling and striking to keep his opponent on there heels. Four of Lawler’s loses have come by way of chokes and that just happens to be one of Kennedy’s best submissions. Kennedy takes this fight to the ground and finishes Lawler.

Strikeforce/M-1 Global Women’s Welterweight Championship Bout – Free Picks, Odds and Predictions

Marloes Coenen (Champion) vs Miesha Tate (Challenger)

Marloes Coenen (19-4) is currently ranked #1 in the world in the welterweight division by the Unified Woman’s MMA Rankings. Of her nineteen wins only two have gone to decision and she has finished fourteen by submission. Coenen strength lies in her ground game where she can pull off a submission as fast as others pull out a knockout.

Miesha Tate (11-2) earned her way to this title shot by winning the woman’s welterweight tournament in August of last year but a knee injury kept her from fighting for this title for over a year. Tate utilizes a strong grappling and submission game to beat her opponents down and finish them when they’re vulnerable.

Both woman are going to try to gain an advantage in the grappling to wear their opponent out. Tate (-105) has finished five fights with submissions and is currently riding a five fight win streak. Even though Tate has excellent grappling the advantage goes to Coenen (-125). She is one of the best in the world at finishing off her back and that is a place she is most likely going to find herself. When the fight hits the mat look for Coenen to throw up a triangle.

“The Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko vs Dan “Hendo” Henderson

Widely considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world for the better part of the last decade “The Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko (31-3-1) has hit the first rough patch in his career. He lost his first fight in ten years without even being hit by a punch as he fell into a triangle choke against Febricio Werdum . He followed up by getting brutalized by a much bigger Antonio Silva which ended with the doctor calling the fight. Fedor is looking to get back to the form that made him feared for so long.

Dan “Hendo” Henderson (27-8) has been an icon in MMA since its inception. He is currently the Strikeforce light heavyweight champion but his belt won’t be on the line in this bout. Henderson is 5-1 in his last six fights with three victories coming in the UFC and two in Strikeforce. His last two wins have come by way of knockout.

For the first time in a long time Fedor (-240) is going to have a size advantage in a heavyweight fight. Fedor can finish a fight from anywhere but he is especially dangerous off his back. Henderson (+180) is a very accomplished and decorated Greco-Roman wrestler and this is what he’ll turn to if the fight doesn’t go his way on the feet. Both these fighters have good standup with one punch knockout power but the ability to finish on the ground goes to Fedor. This will be the deciding factor in this fight and Fedor uses it to take the win.
