Alabama has supplanted Florida as the the nation’s new #1 team in this week’s AP Poll. Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide are 7-0 and have won all seven games by 10 points or more. Florida, which had been #1 all season thus far, dropped to #2 after saturday’s close 23-20 win against Arkansas as a -24.5 point favorite. Texas remains #3 after saturday’s hard fought 16-13 win over Oklahoma in the Red River rivalry, while USC and Cincinnati round out this week’s top 5. The rest of the top 10 includes Boise St, Iowa, Miami-Fl, LSU and TCU(in that order). The poll welcomes three new teams to the rankings this week, as Pittsburgh(20), Texas Tech(21) and West Virginia(22) have earned their way into the rankings after impressive wins last week. LSU(#4) and Boise St(#5) both crack the Top 5 for the first time this season after last week’s #4(Ole Miss) and #5(Penn St) both lost. Ole Miss’s embarassing 16-10 loss at South Carolina last thursday night dropped the Rebels all the way down to #21 this week, while Joe Pa’s Penn St Nittany Lions dropped to #15 after losing at home to Iowa 21-10. The 4-0 Hawkeyes have entered this week’s poll as the #13 ranked team in the nation after not being ranked at all the first four weeks of the season. The poll has a total of 4 new Top 10 teams this week, as #6 Virginia Tech, #7 USC, #9 Ohio St, and #10 Cincinnati all moved up into the Top 10 after 4 Top 10 teams lost last week(#4 Ole Miss, #5 Penn St, #6 Cal, #9 Miami-Fl).
