Week 11 Sunday Night NFL Picks: Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants Odds and Predictions – Free NFL Picks 11/20/11

Week 11 Free NFL Picks: Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants NFL Week 11 Vegas Odds, Free Picks, and Expert Predictions on NBC 11/20/11: At the start of the season, nobody would have been surprised to hear that the NFC East leader would be in action when the Philadelphia Eagles visit the New York Giants Sunday night. However, most people expected the Eagles to be the team leading one of the tougher divisions in the NFL. Well, things don’t always go according to plan, and Philadelphia (3-6) finds its playoff hopes all but over as Andy Reid’s bunch prepares to take on a New York team sitting atop the division with a 6-3 record. Throw in the fact that the Eagles will be without two of their top offensive weapons, and it is easy to understand why the Giants are 5 ½-point favorites in this one.

The big story leading up to the game was the status of Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick. He seems to be perpetually banged up, and this time, broken ribs will sideline him for Sunday night’s game. Granted, Vick wasn’t having the MVP-type year many expected, but he was still making plays with his arm and his legs. After all, Philadelphia has led in the fourth quarter of five of its six losses, and it wasn’t Vick letting opponents pile up points in the closing minutes of games. Without Vick, the Eagles will turn to Vince Young, who threw an interception on his only pass attempt of the year. Against a Giants’ defense that pressure quarterbacks as well as any group in the NFL, the easily shaken Young could be in for a long night.

To make matters worse, Young will be without the receiver Jeremy Maclin, who is leading the Eagles in receptions and receiving yards this season. Not to mention the fact that fellow receiver DeSean Jackson has been more concerned with getting a new contract than he has with catching the ball and making plays. Chemistry has been an issue for the self-titled “Dream Team” all season, and it is only getting worse, along with the team’s record. At this point, Philadelphia will be lucky to avoid an all-out collapse.

The lone bright spot for the Eagles during a disappointing season has been running back LeSean McCoy. He is averaging 5.5 yards per carry and has 906 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. McCoy has been the one consistent player for the Philadelphia offense, and if the Eagles are going to right the ship and challenge the Giants Sunday, they will have to do it with heavy doses of McCoy. Without Vick in the lineup, McCoy should get his chance to be a workhorse for an offense that leads the NFL in rushing.

That being said, the Eagles still have to find a way to slow down the Giants’ offense. Quarterback Eli Manning is having the best year of his career, and New York owns the fifth-best passing attack in football this season. Star receiver Hakeem Nicks is on his way back from an injury, and slot receiver Victory Cruz and tight end Jake Ballard have emerged as legitimate weapons as potent weapons for Manning. The newfound targets have allowed Manning to complete a career-high 63 percent of his passes this season, and since a Week 1 loss to Washington, the Giants have managed at least 20 points in every game.

The X-factor in the game could be running back Brandon Jacobs. The Eagles smaller defensive front has struggled to stop the run all season, especially against bigger backs. Jacobs is as big and as strong as they come, and he should enjoy a strong outing, wearing down the middle of the Philadelphia defense. Manning should have no problem getting the Giants ahead, and Jacobs should be able to take over in the fourth quarter and finish off an Eagles’ team that will likely struggle to score without their starting QB under center.
