Free NFL Preseason Picks: Minnesota Vikings @ Seattle Seahawks 2011 NFL Preseason Vegas Odds, Free Picks, and Expert Predictions Saturday Night 8/20/11: It was quite evident that the long layoff this offseason and huge overhaul of players that the Vikings underwent really effected them. Minnesota lacked rhythm and timing in their loss to the Tennessee Titans last Saturday night, but another week of preseason practice and classroom sessions should have this club ready to go. Donovan McNabb looked decent in his first start as the Vikings pivot, he too looked as though he was out of touch with his receivers and backs. The Vikings are hinging their aspirations this season on McNabb returning to his pro bowl form of years past, a rather large gamble in the eyes of most. McNabb is coming off the most mentally grueling and challenging season of his career but has publicly stated that he is still an elite quarterback in this league and knows he can return to that level. The other catalyst behind any 2011 Minnesota Vikings playoff birth will undoubtedly be running back Adrian Peterson. The Vikings will be returning the majority of their offensive line this season, which should bode well for the leagues top threat out of the backfield. The Vikings are going to do their best to bring Peterson into the regular season healthy and charged, giving him 1 carry as they did in Tennessee might just be the remedy for that. The Vikings future in Christian Ponder looked quite solid in his debut and the callings for him to be under centre might be sooner rather then later if McNabb fails to perform. Ponder ended his debut going 8-13 for 84 yards and had a long strike for 26 yards.

The Seattle Seahawks are taking huge gambles on ex-Vikings QB Tavaris Jackson and WR Sydney Rice, but the Hawks’ feel that these players have the makings and tools to be quite successful in their scheme. Jackson was thrown off the radar when the Vikings landed the services of Brett Favre 2 seasons ago and he has patiently waited for a chance to showcase his skills once again. Prior to the Favre signing, Jackson was a solid quarterback for the Vikings and he gave the Vikings a chance to win in every start he was offered. He is one of those quarterbacks where he doesn’t do any one thing particularly great, but he does everything good. Coming over with Jackson to the west will be his longtime Vikings teammate in Sydney Rice, both will be called on to revamp a rather mundane and opportunistic Seahawks offense. Unlike Jackson, Rice was a focal point of the Vikings offense for the last several years but fell out of favor last season. Rice poses as a large target and he has the speed to stretch the field. To round out this Seahawks offense they brought in Zach Miller from the Raiders to shore up their tight-end position, a dire need this off season. The Seahawks will have every opportunity to repeat their NFC West title this season, but it will be on the shoulders and arm of a rather unproven commodity.

Tonight we will recommend a play on the OVER. The Seahawks and Vikings both have solid offenses that can strike at any point, they also have defenses that love to bring it back the other way. We witnessed last week both starting units struggle out of the gates and it will be a focal point tonight for both clubs offensive coordinators to get their offenses going. Donovan McNabb might be the player that has the most to prove this season, a repeat letdown performance like last year might just about remove him from any hall of fame talk. Now with almost three weeks of prep work under his belt, McNabb might finally be ready to execute this Vikings offense to full capacity tonight against a suspect secondary in the Seahawks. Tavaris Jackson will be treating this game as his mini-Superbowl as he will want to show the Vikings what they gave up on years ago. We will consider the scoring to be early and often tonight at Qwest Field, go with the OVER. Cheers!
