2018 NFL Picks & Betting Odds Week 2 – Kansas City Chiefs @ Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions
The Kansas City Chiefs come into this week 2 matchup with a 1-0 record after beating the Los Angeles Chargers 38-28 last Sunday in LA. The Chiefs covered the spread as +3.5 point underdogs and the game total easily went over the 48 point number.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and the loyal Chiefs fanbase had to like what they saw out of new starting quarterback Patrick Maholmes in his debut as the Chiefs starter. Maholmes won the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award for his week 1 performance that saw him throw for 4 touchdowns and 256 yards on only 27 attempts while throwing no interceptions.
The Chiefs won the game last week but do have to worry about their pass defense after Chargers quarterback lit them up for 424 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. The Chargers also rushed for 122 yards on just 22 carries so the Chiefs defense has plenty of work to do before we can start talking about them as possibly being a true AFC contender.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will enter their home opener this week a little peeved and embarrassed after leaving Cleveland with a tie last Sunday against the Browns. The Steelers and Browns played to a 21-21 tie after the Steelers failed to protect a 21-7 halftime lead.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin must have ripped into his team this week in practice after watching the game tape from last Sunday. The offense was absolutely pathetic in the 2nd half and in overtime as they failed to score a single point. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger received most of the criticism from fans this week and rightfully so after he threw 3 interceptions in the loss.
Defensively, the Steelers have to get better against the run if they plan on getting back to the Super Bowl and winning it this season. The Browns rushed for 177 yards on 38 carries last Sunday including 20 and 22 yard touchdown runs by Browns quarterback Tyrod Taylor and running back Carlos Hyde.
We look for this game to be pretty close throughout especially with Steelers running back Le’veon Bell still holding out. Both offenses should have plenty of opportunities to score as neither defense is elite in our eyes. Ultimately, we look for the Chiefs to pull out a close one as they have too much speed on offense for the Steelers defense to contain for 60 minutes.
