2016 NFC East Division Predictions and Odds to Win

1. Washington Redskins(+275 odds to win NFC East at Bovada) – The Washington Redskins are coming off of a solid 9-7 season last year in which they captured the NFC East Division crown in head coach Jay Gruden’s 2nd season as the man calling the shots for this proud franchise. The Redskins look like they are ready to make another jump this season and win double digits for the first time since 2012 as they added the game’s top cornerback in Josh Norman in free agency in addition to using 3 of their first 4 draft picks in the 2016 draft on the defensive side of the ball. The Redskins defense was atrocious last season as it ranked 28th in the NFL but having a shutdown corner like Norman should raise this defense up considerably and make the Skins defense formidable. Offensively, the Skins should have one of the most explosive attacks in the NFL behind quarterback Kirk Cousins and wide receiver DeSean Jackson. The Skins offense was rated 17th in the NFL last year but they used their 1st rd draft pick on wide out Josh Doctson from TCU and he along with Jackson should make this years offense one of the top 10 in the NFL in our eyes.

2. Dallas Cowboys(+175 odds to win NFC East at Bovada) – The Dallas Cowboys were one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL last season as many forecasted them to be in the Super Bowl but they stumbled their way to a 4-12 record. The major reason why Dallas struggled last season was injuries and especially to their starting quarterback Tony Romo. Romo only played 2 full games for the Cowboys last season and has not been able to play an entire season for Dallas since 2012. Romo’s health concerns is a major reason why we aren’t picking Dallas to win the NFC East this season because they certainly have the talent to win the division but we don’t trust Romo to stay healthy. Dallas’ offense will be amongst the NFL’s best with Romo healthy as wideout Dez Bryant is a stud and tight end Jason Witten is still one of the game’s best. Dallas used their 1st rd draft pick on Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliot and if he lives up to his billing than Dallas should have a well balanced attack. Defensively, Dallas was a respectable 17th in the NFL last season and should be better as they used their 2nd, 3rd and 4th rd draft picks on defensive players.

3. New York Giants(+220 odds to win NFC East at Bovada) – The New York Giants finally decided to cut the cord with head coach Tom Coughlin after another disappointing season last year that saw the Giants go 6-10. The Giants promoted Coughlin’s offensive coordinator, Ben McAdoo, to head coach as they look to post their first winning season since 2012. The Giants offense will be one of the game’s best behind quarterback Eli Manning and all pro wide receiver Odell Beckham. The Giants offense was ranked 8th in the NFL last season and should be just as good if not better this year. However, defense is a different ball of wax for the Gmen. The Gmen defense was horrible last season again as it rated dead last 32nd in the NFL. The Giants tried to bolster it in free agency by bringing 5 defensive veterans and using their 1st, 3rd and 4th rd draft picks on defensive players. However, in our opinion, none of the guys they brought in will make a big enough impact to make the Giants defense much better. They probably won’t be dead last in the NFL but they’ll still be amongst the worst.

4. Philadelphia Eagles(+420 odds to win NFC East at Bovada) – The Philadelphia Eagles begin a new era with head coach Doug Pederson in 2016 after a highly disappointing few seasons with former head coach Chip Kelly. The Eagles won 10 games and made the playoffs in Kelly’s first season in 2013 but failed to make the playoffs the last two years including an awful 7-9 season last year. Pederson comes in trying to clean up Kelly’s mess but will have an outstanding quarterback prospect to work with as the Eagles drafted Carson Wentz with the 2nd pick in the NFL draft. Wentz is a 6-5, 237 pound prospect that has all the tools to be a big time player but might struggle early as he played college ball at North Dakota State against weak competition. The Eagles still have quarterback Sam Bradford to run the offense until Wentz is ready to take over but that me be awhile as the Eagles offensive line is still a big question mark and the last thing the Eagles need is to get their new rookie quarterback hurt by getting killed every game. Defensively, the Eagles were 30th in the NFL last season and will be terrible again this season as they surprisingly didn’t draft a defensive player until the 6th rd in the draft and didn’t add anyone in free agency worth getting excited about.
