2016 AFC East Division Predictions and Odds to Win

1. New England Patriots(-220 odds to win AFC East at Bovada) – The New England Patriots have won an impressive 7 consecutive AFC East Division titles and 12 out of the last 13. The dominance the Patriots have had over the AFC East under head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady doesn’t look like will end this season as we see the Patriots coasting to another easy division title. Tom Brady is suspended for the first four games of the regular season if a court doesn’t overrule but it won’t matter as this roster is still too good to collapse in his absence and should be arguably the top team in the NFL when Brady returns. The offense will be better in 2016 with the return of a healthy Dion Lewis at running back and the addition of former Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennet. The defense should be a top 10 overall NFL defense led by stud linebackers Jamie Collins and Dont’a Hightower.

2. Buffalo Bills(+525 odds to win AFC East at Bovada) – The Buffalo Bills haven’t made the NFL playoffs in a league leading 16 seasons and the pressure is on loud mouth Bills head coach to deliver a playoff bid to a starving fan base that is tired of false promises. Ryan loves to run his mouth and talk the talk but has regularly failed to walk the walk over the last 5 plus years as coach of the Jets and Bills. Ryan will have a talented roster this season to work with as the Bills defense should be a very solid unit while the offense should be solid enough to put enough points up to sneak out a lot of close games. The Bills finished 8-8 last season but should improve to 9-7 or maybe 10-6 this season.

3. New York Jets(+550 odds to win AFC East at Bovada) – New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles did a solid job in his first year leading Gang Green as the Jets finished a solid 10-6 last season but failed to make the playoffs. The Jets fans are excited and feel the Jets will make the jump to 11 plus wins and be in the playoffs this season but we aren’t buying it. For starters, the Jets got solid quarterback play last year from Ryan Fitzpatrick but he’s a question mark to return this season as quarterback and even if he does we don’t feel like he’ll play any better than he did last year. The Jets defense should be respectable but cornerback Darrelle Revis didn’t look like his old all pro self last year and will be one year older this year. The Jets fans are in for a rude awakening as we think the Jets have 8-8 written all over them in 2016.

4. Miami Dolphins(+800 odds to win AFC East at Bovada) – The Dolphins begin a new era under new head coach Adam Gase but it will be another long season for long-time suffering Dolphins fans. The Dolphins are still waiting on quarterback Ryan Tannehill to take his game to a new level and carry the Miami offense on his shoulders in the process. It ain’t happening because the guy simply isn’t that good. Period. The sooner the Dolphins realize and accept this the better they’ll be and than maybe they’ll decide to boost their defense to an elite level to compensate. The Dolphins defense was supposed to be improved last year with the addition of Ndamukong Suh but still finished 28th in the NFL in rushing defense and 25th in total defense. The Dolphins will never improve until their defense does and we don’t feel they’ve made enough progress in the draft and free agency to see much improvement this season.
