The NFC East has become one of the best divisions in the NFL in recent years. With the exception of the Washington Redskins, the other three teams have all taken turns winning the division. In fact, Dallas, Philadelphia and New York have each won the NFC East twice in the last six years, and no team has won back-to-back division titles during the stretch. It’s tough to find a more balanced top-to-bottom conference in the NFL.

2011 NFL NFC East Divisions Odds, Expert Picks, Predictions and Preview:

  1. Philadelphia Eagles

As if the Eagles weren’t explosive enough with Michael Vick shredding defenses with his arms and legs, Andy Reid’s team loaded up during free agency. The secondary now features Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Asante Samuel, which will make the blitz-heavy attack all the more effective. On offense, Vick, LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson are a big play waiting to happen, and Philadelphia could be a highlight reel on both sides of the ball throughout the season. If Vick stays healthy, the Eagles should win the NFC East and might even win the Super Bowl.

  1. Dallas Cowboys

The return of Tony Romo and a new defensive coordinator that promises a more aggressive approach should help the Cowboys bounce back from a disappointing 2010-11 campaign. With a serviceable running game, Romo should be in for a monster season with Dez Bryant and Miles Austin stretching the field and Jason Whitten moving the chains. While scoring points won’t be a problem, stopping opponents might be. The secondary is a major question mark, and an injury to cornerback Terrance Newman won’t help the cause. Dallas should be good enough on offense to stay in playoff contention, but the team doesn’t have the personnel on defense to win the NFC East this year.

  1. New York Giants

The formula is always the same for the New York Giants. They ride the Eli Manning rollercoaster and rush the passer as good as any team in the NFL. A potential contract issue with Osi Umenyiora isn’t the greatest scenario, but the front seven is stout with or without him in the mix. Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs are both back to keep the thunder and lightning running game intact, but the Giants will ultimately go as far as Manning can take them. Hakeem Nicks is developing into one of the best big play receivers in the conference, but decision making remains an issue at times for Manning. New York could challenge for a wildcard spot, but Manning has to be on his game.

  1. Washington Redskins

Despite what Rex Grossman says, the Redskins are going to have serious issues contending in the NFC East. For starters, Grossman is slated to be the starting quarterback. Mike Shanahan has brought in an arsenal of running backs, but it is anyone’s guess how he will use them and whether or not the committee will be effective. The Washington defense could actually be the best all-around unit in the division, but it won’t get much help from the offense. In a division loaded with powerful offenses, the Redskins won’t be able to win with defense alone.
