The Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers may be the fiercest rivalry in the AFC, but some serious bad blood is growing between the New England Patriots and New York Jets in the AFC East. New England has dominated the division, winning seven of the last eight titles and posting 14 or more wins on four occasions. However, the Jets have talked plenty of trash the last two years, and they walked the walk so to speak last season, bouncing the 14-2 Patriots from the playoffs. Looking at the rankings, it appears that the two franchises could be back at it in 2011.

2011 NFL AFC East Divisions Odds, Expert Picks, Predictions and Preview:

  1. New England Patriots

Quarterback Tom Brady is coming off an MVP season when he threw 36 touchdowns and just four interceptions. His favorite targets are all back this season, along with the addition of big play weapon Chad Johnson. The defense is still young in the secondary, but the front seven is solid and will only getter better if free agent Albert Haynesworth stays focused on football. The Patriots will probably give up a few big plays from time to time, but the offense will put up more than enough points to make up for a few lapses by the defense. Brady could be on his way to another MVP Award, and New England should claim another division crown.

  1. New York Jets

In typical Rex Ryan fashion, the Jets talked a big game during the offseason. However, they didn’t exactly add much to a team that came up one game short of reaching the Super Bowl. New York still has stud cornerback Darrelle Revis, but the Jets failed to land Nnamdi Asomugha. They also lost Braylon Edwards and Jericho Cotchery. Quarterback Jonathan Sanchez isn’t going to be confused with Tom Brady any time soon, and even with Shonn Greene carrying the load on the ground, the offense isn’t the most efficient. No team plays with more confidence than the Jets, but the superior talent of the Patriots will likely win out over the course of the season.

  1. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins could never get a deal worked out for quarterback Kyle Orton, leaving Chad Henne back under center for another year. Despite his struggles in the NFL, the Dolphins’ offense could still make some noise. The Miami offensive line is solid across the board, and rookie running back Daniel Thomas should be productive immediately. Throw in Brandon Marshall, who is still good for 100 catches, and newly acquired Reggie Bush, and the Dolphins should be able to score more points than in recent years. The defense has slipped to average at best, and while the Dolphins aren’t terrible, they don’t have what it takes to compete in the AFC East.

  1. Buffalo Bills

Last year, the Bills had the unfortunate distinction of being one the worst in the NFL. Offense was the major issue, especially the running game. Buffalo has a borderline terrible offensive line, and C.J. Spiller has shown no signs of being a productive running back. Receiver Steve Johnson has a breakout campaign last season, but quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is very limited in terms of upside. Thanks to a young, talented defensive front, the Bills should improve on that side of the ball over the next few years. However, the defense will be a work in progress, and the offseason may be beyond repair. It is going to be another long year in Buffalo.
