From the Observation Deck (Vol.12)

Tiger’s Crash– Unless you lived under a rock this weekend, the big story was Tiger Woods’ low speed crash at the end of his driveway.  And its a good thing his wife Elin had the presence of mind to have her “rescue club” with her to free poor Tiger from the wreck!  It just goes to show you that you can have all the money and fame in the world, and you still are not immune to marital spats…  and if you’re believing the PR BS from Tiger, then you’re hopelessly naive.  Let’s face it, the guy played someone else’s “back-nine”, the wife found out and she chased him out of the house with her “trouble-club” and probably knocked him out to boot…  So, now that someone called 911 and it went public, he’s trying to control the spin.

It’s not the first time a golfer wanted to play another course even though his home course is beautiful; he gets tired of playing the same holes and just wants to experience a different course for a change.  What makes it a big story is that Tiger is a global icon and probably more recognized world-wide than Barack Obama, which is not surprising since Tiger is much much better at his job than Obama is, but that’s a story for another time…  It’s also universally known that Tiger’s weakness on tour is his inability to control his “big-stick“, so is this really a shock? The question now is when will the media firestorm go away and will Elin give him a mulligan?

NBA Refs Stink- Is it just me or do the NBA referees have agendas and call games differently for different players?  Sure, they’ve always given the superstars preferential treatment and call fouls on defenders for breathing on them.  And, they give rookies no calls whatsoever….  I guess it is what it is, but they also have axes to grind with players and coaches they don’t like…

Rasheed Wallace got fined $30K this week for complaining about players flopping.  Well they do!  Was he wrong?  Look, I know Sheed has a bad temper and historically has deserved many a technical..  But the refs hate him and he gets T’d up much quicker than other players do too, there is no consistency whatsoever. Watching an NBA game get officiated these days reminds me of the WWF pro wrestling referees I watched when I was a kid…

College Football Playoffs- The NCAA football playoffs get underway this week and I can’t wait.  What, you say?  There are no playoffs in college football…  Well, yes, officially, but let’s face it you have 2 semifinal games, Florida vs. Alabama in one game and Texas vs. whoever they play for their conference title in the other game.  So, in essence we will have Texas playing the Florida/Alabama winner in the big enchilada…     …..and speaking of Alabama, do you get the sense that this team doesn’t enjoy themselves and is pretty uptight?  I guess teams do take on the persona of their head coach afterall…
