Boston Celtics at Miami Heat Game 2 Expert Picks, Odds and Predictions – NBA Playoffs Betting Preview 5/3/11

Boston Celtics at Miami Heat Game 2 Expert Picks, Odds and Predictions – NBA Playoffs Betting Preview 5/3/11: Head Basketball coach Doc Rivers will try to mend the Boston Celtics ways as they remain in Miami to play at the American Airlines Arena in Game 2 of a best of seven series against the Miami Heat on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM ET on TNT Sports. Early in the season the Celtics seemed to own the Heat but the momentum has changed since the Heat’s convincing victory at home 100-77 on April 10th not only showing they can win but setting the tone for this playoff series.

Boston Forward Paul Pierce has it right that these games are not scripted, major professional sports has been my reality TV since I was a kid. Adjustments are made from game to game in a 7 games series and certainly no two are alike so Rivers will need his black bag of tricks because if they lose the first 2 of the series they are 1-7 to go on to win. I don’t see the Heat being more “chippy” than “physical” as Rivers described them after the Celtics game 1 loss; I see them becoming more physical as the series goes on in a Heat President Pat Riley tradition. The odds makers at Bodog Sportsbook have the Miami Heat a -5 point favorite at home against the Boston Celtics.

Shooting guard Dwayne Wade broke out of his “Boston slump” by pouring in a game high 38 points in the game one victory 99-90 at home as well as dishing 5 assists and pulling down a rebound. Forward LeBron James had by his standards an average night with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and seemed to enjoy being part of Wades show in Game 1. Chris Bosh only scored 7 points but pulled down 12 rebounds while the rest of the story was the red hot shooting of James Jones off the bench. Jones set a playoff record for the Heat with 25 points coming off the bench, all but 4 of Miami’s reserves points. Vegas odds makers have the Miami Heat +250 to win the 2010-2011 NBA Championship.

Shooting guard Ray Allen led the Celtics with 25 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists while Pierce chipped in 19 points, grabbed 7 boards and dished 2 assists before being ejected for his 2nd technical foul in the 4th quarter. I think the Celtics headline is the lack of performance by both point guard Rajon Rondo with 8 points and big Kevin Garnett with just 6 points. The total has gone OVER in 5 of last 6 games when playing on the road against Miami and Vegas odds makers have the over/under for the total score at 182 points combined of the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.

I predict the Heat win Game 2 at home and cover.
