2011 NBA Playoffs – Trail Blazers vs Mavericks Series Odds, Predictions, Free Picks and Preview

2011 NBA Western Conference Playoffs – Portland Trail Blazers vs Dallas Mavericks Series Odds, Predictions, Free Picks and Preview: Led by Dirk Nowitzki the Dallas Mavericks once again have one of the best records in the NBA. Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers survived a knee injury to their leader Brandon Roy to secure a spot in the playoffs. Heading into the playoffs, the Mavericks will be looking to end a string of early exits, but they will have to do it against a team that keeps defying odds. The Mavericks have been installed as a -205 favorite(odds at SBG Global Sportsbook) to win the series.

Dallas has been a perennial 50-plus win team since making it the finals in 2006. Jason Kidd and Nowitzki are joined by veterans Shawn Marion, Jason Terry and Peja Stojakovic. Unlike some past Mavericks teams, this year’s squad has a bit of youth with center Tyson Chandler manning the middle. Chandler has enjoyed one of the best season’s of his career, and he could be the X-factor Dallas been missing since their collapse against Miami in the finals five years ago.

When Roy went down with a knee injury early in the season, many thought he took Portland’s playoff hopes with him. However, Roy’s departure made room for LeMarcus Aldridge to become a star in the league. The former lottery pick became a consistent 25-point scorer, carrying the Trail Blazers offensively. On the defensive end of the court center Marcus Camby is returning just in time for the playoffs, and a trade for Gerald Wallace gives Portland a legitimate shut down defender.

In many ways, the two teams are actually very similar. Kidd and Andre Miller are both veteran point guards, and both Aldridge and Nowitzki can be penciled in for 20-plus points a night. Camby and Chandler are shot blockers and rebounders first and scoring options second, and Nicolas Batum and Marion are both do-it-all swingmen.

The team’s split four games this season, with each team winning one and home and one on the road. The Mavericks won more games overall, but the fact that they get bounced in the opening round of the playoffs on a regular basis can’t be ignored. With the exception of Chandler, this team’s squad is essentially the same team that has failed in the postseason on a regular basis. Portland has found a way to win all season, and with Aldridge playing at the highest level of his career and the addition of Wallace, the Trail Blazers are more than capable of adding to the Mavericks playoff misery. Expect a back and forth affair, but Dallas has a history of wilting in the clutch. Check the opening NBA odds for Blazers-Mavericks Game 1 below.
