Brad Keselowski and Denny Hamlin are among the big names scheduled to be in the field Friday night, and here is a closer look at all the frontrunners.

The Favorites

The last time he participated in an Xfinity Series race at Texas, Brad Keselowski was celebrating in victory lane. He has also been a steady contender at the track, piling up nine finishes of seventh or better in his last 10 starts. During the same stretch, Keselowski has finished third or better on five different occasions.

Although he has never won an Xfinity Series race at Texas Denny Hamlin is a two-time Cup winner at the track, and he has enjoyed plenty of strong runs at the track in the Xfinity Series, as well. He has finished in the top five in six of his last seven Xfinity starts at Texas, including four straight. Over the same span, Hamlin has finished second three times, including in his most recent starts at the track.

He won an Xfinity Series race at Texas early in his career, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. has continued to perform well at the track in the series. Junior has five top-10s in seven career starts at the track, and more importantly, he has finished in the top five in each of his last two starts at the 1.5-mile oval.

His 5.2 average finish at Texas is the second best of any driver in the field this weekend, and Austin Dillon has already shown this year that he can take care of business at a 1.5-mile oval by leading 183 of the 200 laps in a win at Las Vegas. At Texas specifically, he has finished seventh or better in all five of his starts, finishing as high as third.

The Contenders

He is the defending winner of this weekend’s race, and Chase Elliott went to victory lane in his first-ever Xfinity Series start at Texas. Equally as important, Elliott was able to prove that his win was no fluke by following up his win with a fourth-place run at the track in the fall race. Elliott’s 2.5 average finish at Texas is the best of any driver in the field this weekend.

After needing a couple of races to get comfortable as Kyle Busch’s substitute driver, Erik Jones is starting to showcase his upside. He has notched back-to-back top-five finishes heading into this weekend’s race, and Jones will be driving for Joe Gibbs Racing again this weekend. He should be in the mix Friday night.

He rolls into this weekend’s race as the point leader, and Ty Dillon has logged four top-10s in five races this year, including finishes of third and eighth in the previous two events held at 1.5-mile tracks. He is a safe bet to be in contention this weekend.

Young driver Chris Buescher has made surprising strides this year, and heading into this weekend’s race, he is tied for the most top-five finishes among series regulars with three. One of those top-five finishes came at Atlanta, and Texas shares a similar 1.5-mile layout. He is still a little inconsistent, but there is no denying Buescher’s upside.

The Sleeper

His overall numbers at Texas aren’t great, but Regan Smith has been a much better driver at the track since joining JR Motorsports in 2013. He has finished 11th or better in all four starts at Texas with the organization, and he has finished seventh or better three times. Despite his 19.0 overall average finish at the track, Smith could be a surprise factor this weekend.
