2013 DRIVE4COPD 300 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Favorites and Sleepers: While Cup Series drivers make appearances in the Nationwide Series all season, there won’t be a single field with more star power than this weekend’s lineup at Daytona. Among the big names on the entry list are Tony Stewart, Brad Keselowski, Kasey Kahne, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the Busch brothers. Throw in the fact that the series regulars this season include Elliott Sadler, Trevor Bayne, Brian Vickers and Regan Smith, and Saturday’s DRIVE4COPD 300 has a chance to be something special.
Of course, it is going to be hard for the finish of this year’s race to top the incredible final lap of the 2012 event. In fact, the race was decided on the exit of the final corner when Joey Logano slid up the track in an attempt to block Tony Stewart from taking the lead. Instead of closing the door on Stewart, Logano sent Stewart into the wall, triggering an 11-car wreck. The beneficiary was James Buescher, who snuck by the melee and ended up in Victory Lane.

The Favorites
While he has yet to win the Daytona 500, Tony Stewart has had no problem winning the Nationwide season opener. He has won the February race at Daytona in six of the last seven seasons, including a run of four straight from 2008 to 2011. In 11 career starts at the track in the Nationwide Series, Stewart has a ridiculous 4.6 average finish. The numbers speak for themselves, and Stewart is basically a lock to be a factor for the win Saturday.
He is one of the most-decorated restrictor-plate drivers in the history of NASCAR, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. has done plenty of his damage at Daytona in the Nationwide Series. He is a six-time winner at the track with the most-recent victory coming in 2010. Overall, Junior has 14 plate races between the Cup and Nationwide Series. Plain and simple, Junior knows how to work the draft as well as anyone, and he should be a factor this weekend.
Although he hasn’t raced at Daytona in the Nationwide Series since 2009, Matt Kenseth could return with a bang in 2013. After all, Kenseth has dominated at Daytona in the Cup Series recently, winning a pair of Daytona 500s and finishing eighth or better in seven of the last nine races. Not to mention the fact that he has a 6.4 average finish and eight top-10s in 10 career Nationwide starts at Daytona. Regardless of the series, Daytona is one of Kenseth’s strongest tracks.
The Dark Horses
He will be driving the Phoenix Racing No. 1 Chevrolet this weekend, and Kurt Busch had plenty of success driving the same car at Daytona last year. After finishing 10th in the February race at the track, Busch went to Victory Lane in the July Nationwide race at Daytona. Driving for a smaller team didn’t slow Busch down at all in 2012, and there is no reason he can’t make noise with the same team in 2013.
While he didn’t have the best year at Daytona in 2012, Kyle Busch’s overall numbers at the track in the Nationwide Series are solid. In his nine starts prior to last season, he finished seventh or better eight times. During the stretch, he picked up six top-five finishes, including a win and three second-place efforts. He is more than capable of getting back to Victory Lane this weekend.
Sleeper Special
It didn’t take long for Austin Dillon to get a feel for the draft at Daytona. As a rookie like year, he finished fifth and fourth in his two starts at the track. Yes, there is a chance it was beginner’s luck, but it could also be a sign of things to come. With a year of experience under his belt, Dillon could be better equipped to handle the final laps of the race and make the moves he needs to get to Victory Lane.
Driver to Avoid
Give him credit for trying, but despite making a ton of Nationwide starts at Daytona, Kasey Kahne just has had much luck. In 16 starts, he has a mediocre 19.7 average finish. Worse yet, he has finished 25th or worse seven times and has finished outside the top 30 six times. Kahne has accomplished a lot in his career and is a potential contender for the Sprint Cup in 2013, but that being said, he just hasn’t found a way to be a threat for the win at Daytona in the Nationwide Series.
