2012 NAPA Auto Parts 200 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Favorites and Sleepers to Win NAPA Auto Parts 200: One of the rare stretches of the Nationwide season wraps up this weekend as the series heads from Watkins Glen International to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. It is the only time in any of NASCAR’s national touring series that the schedule features back-to-back road course events, and although the Montreal road course has only hosted five races, it already has a reputation for producing wild finishes. From the inaugural event that saw Robby Gordon cross the finish line first only to be disqualified to a thrilling side-by-side drag race between Boris Said and Max Papis in 2010, there has been plenty of excitement at Circuit Gilles Villenueve.

Last season’s race was no exception as Marcos Ambrose rallied from the back of the field to win his first race at the track. Ambrose missed qualifying for the event because of his duties with his Cup Series team at Michigan, but he got to the track in time for the race. He worked his way up to second in time for a late restart, and he and pole-sitter Jacques Villeneuve traded paint as they battled for the top spot. The battle ended with Villeneuve ending up in the wall and Ambrose pulling away for the win.

The Favorites – 2012 NAPA Auto Parts 200 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

With most of the Cup Series regulars deciding to skip the Nationwide race this weekend, Kyle Busch will be the most-proven driver in the field. He finished in the top 10 in his only other start at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and he is one of the top road racers in NASCAR today. There is little doubt that he will be the most-talented driver on the track Saturday, and if he can avoid the bad luck that has been following him around lately, Busch could easily add to his series record of 51 career wins.

In five starts at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Ron Fellows has two top-five finishes, including a win in 2008. Overall, he has six NASCAR road course, with two coming in the Truck Series and four in the Nationwide Series. In two road course starts in the Nationwide Series in 2012, he has finished third and fifth. Fellows is one of the best road racers in the world, and the Canadian could give his countrymen plenty to cheer about this weekend in Montreal.

The Dark Horses – 2012 NAPA Auto Parts 200 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

He sat on the pole and led the most laps at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve last year, but Jacques Villeneuve saw his chances for a win slip away during a late battle for the lead. He will be looking to finish what he started this time around, and given his road course record, he might just get the job done. Villeneuve has five top-10s in his last seven road course starts in the Nationwide Series, including a sixth-place run at Road America earlier this year. After so many close calls, it would be very fitting if his first Nationwide win came at the track named after his late father.

Although he has never made a start at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Sam Hornish Jr. should be a serious threat this weekend. His road course skills have really developed in recent years, and in two road course starts in 2012, he has finished fifth and third. More importantly, Hornish is the hottest driver in the series entering Saturday’s race. He has climbed to third in points thanks to nine straight top-10s, including three straight finishes of third or better. It is only a matter of time before Hornish cashes in on a win.

Sleeper Specials – 2012 NAPA Auto Parts 200 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Joe Gibbs Racing has been using Michael McDowell as its road racing specialist in the Nationwide Series the last couple of seasons, and he has delivered solid results. He finished third at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve last year, and in two road course starts in 2012, he has finished second and sixth. McDowell has never been able to win a Nationwide race, but he has the road racing skills and equipment to pull to grab a victory this weekend.

With just three career Nationwide starts to his name, Alex Tagliani doesn’t exactly have experience on his side. However, he is an experienced road racer in other series, and two of his three Nationwide starts have come at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. More importantly, he started and finished second at the track last year. Tagliani is also driving the same No. 30 car that Nelson Piquet Jr. took to Victory Lane at Road America earlier this year, and he could be the surprise contender this weekend.

Big Name to Avoid – 2012 NAPA Auto Parts 200 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Elliott Sadler was supposed to have a big edge on the other title contenders at the road course events in 2012, but it certainly hasn’t worked out that way. He has looked lost in both road races thus far, finishing outside the top 10 in both events and struggling just to get comfortable. Sadler did finish 10th in his only career start at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, but if Road America and Watkins Glen were any indication of what to expect from him Saturday, the point leader won’t be a factor for the win.
