2012 Indy 250 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Favorites and Sleepers at Indianapolis

2012 Indy 250 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Favorites and Sleepers to Win Indy 250: Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been hosting races for more than 100 years, but NASCAR’s Nationwide Series has never raced at the 2.5-mile oval. That will change this weekend when the series visits the history-rich track for the first time. It’s tough to know exactly what to expect whenever a series visits a track for the first time, and the lack of any sort of data definitely clouds the picture for bettors. Still, there is something intriguing about NASCAR’s minor leagues visiting such a prestigious track. Heck, the Cup Series has only been racing at Indianapolis since 1994, and only 11 drivers in NASCAR history have ever been to Victory Lane at Indy. Not surprisingly, there are plenty of Cup regulars pulling double duty this weekend with the hope of becoming the newest face to kiss the bricks at America’s most-famous auto racing venue. Expect most of the drivers in the field to have a checkers or wreckers mentality as they pursue an unforgettable victory.

The Favorites – 2012 Indy 250 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

With a series-leading five wins, Joey Logano has to be considered a threat to win whenever he jumps behind the wheel in the Nationwide Series. His history of success at Indianapolis in the Cup Series and at flat tracks in general also bodes well. With four wins in his last six Nationwide starts in 2012, Logano has left little doubt that he can get the job done this weekend.

He is getting hot at the right time, and Brad Keselowski heads to Indianapolis with two wins in his last five Nationwide starts. Keselowski also blew away the competition in his most recent start in the series, winning from the pole at New Hampshire. Coincidentally, Indianapolis and New Hampshire are both flat tracks, meaning a repeat performance could be on tap this weekend.

His luck has been horrible lately, but Kyle Busch’s history of dominance in the Nationwide Series speaks for itself. He is the all-time leader in wins in the series with 51, and since he also owns just about every record in existence, winning the inaugural race at a track as famous as Indianapolis just seems fitting.

The Dark Horses – 2012 Indy 250 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Despite being a proven winner at the Cup level, Kasey Kahne had never had much success in the Nationwide Series. He has bucked that trend in 2012, finishing in the top 10 six times in nine starts. Kahne has also enjoyed a lot of success at Indianapolis at the Cup level, and he could make his first Nationwide win since 2007 a big won by winning this weekend.

After letting a win slip away last weekend, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has to be chomping at the bit to get back behind the wheel. His three wins and 10 top-five finishes are tied for the most among the series regulars, and his ability to qualify at the front of the field could be the X-factor. Stenhouse leads all series regulars with a 5.3 average starting position this year, and Indianapolis is always a tough track to pass at. Throw in the fact that many of the Nationwide drivers will be making their track debut, and starting up front should be a huge advantage.

Sleeper Specials – 2012 Indy 250 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Assuming Kyle Busch doesn’t exact some revenge, Sam Hornish Jr. could be a surprise contender this weekend. For starters, he has plenty of momentum heading into the race, having finished in the top 10 in his last six starts. More importantly, he has not only made plenty of starts at Indianapolis in his open wheel days, but he is actually won the Indianapolis 500. At the very least, he has experience on his side.

Wouldn’t it bring back memories to see the No. 3 in Victory Lane at a track like Indianapolis? Well, rookie Austin Dillon has a chance to do just that this weekend. He is currently tied for the series lead with 10 top-five finishes and is one of the top contenders for the Nationwide title. Dillon has been putting up those numbers despite his inexperience, and for the first time, everyone else is an inexperienced at a track as Dillon. A level playing field could spell a big day for Dillon.

Big Name to Avoid – 2012 Indy 250 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

She made a name for herself for at Indianapolis in the IndyCar Series, but Danica Patrick will likely have trouble doing the same this weekend in the Nationwide Series. Yes, she will have the added advantage of having run multiple races at Indy in her career. However, her inexperience driving stock rooms will more than cancel out the advantage. Patrick is taking baby steps, but until she can consistently crack the top 10, she is going to have a hard time winning regardless of the track.
