2012 Hollywood Casino 400 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Favorites and Sleepers at Kansas

2012 Hollywood Casino 400 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Hollywood Casino 400 Favorites and Sleepers to Win at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas: This Sunday, the Cup Series heads back to Kansas Speedway for the Hollywood Casino 400. The 1.5-mile track has seen its share of unexpected finishes since it joined the schedule in 2001, and another interesting race could be on tap. Sunday’s race will mark just the second time the series has raced on the track’s recently repaved surface. Drivers will be forced to adjust their lines throughout the race depending on where and when the groove starts to wear in.

Last fall, Jimmie Johnson made what turned out to be the last stand in his five-year reign as champ. Johnson clobbered the field, leading 197 of the 267 laps and cruising to the victory at Kansas. However, it would end up being his only win of the Chase, and he would manage just a single top-10 finish over the final six races as his record-setting championship streak was finally snapped.

Earlier this year, Martin Truex Jr. hit the setup and quickly got to the front. He ended up leading 173 of the 267 laps, but a bad set of tires on the final stop would prove costly. Truex couldn’t hold off a hard charging Denny Hamlin in the closing laps, and Hamlin ended up cruising to his first career win at Kansas.

The Favorites – 2012 Hollywood Casino 400 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Five-time champ Jimmie Johnson has been a stud at Kansas. He is a two-time winner at the track, and his 7.9 average finish is the best in the series. In 12 career starts at Kansas, Johnson has 10 top-10 finishes, including seven straight. He is also the defending winner of this weekend’s race, and he finished third at the track earlier this year. Johnson has five finishes of third or better in his last seven starts at Kansas, and he should be a major player for the win again on Sunday.

Since wrecking in his track debut, Greg Biffle has been nearly unstoppable at Kansas. He has finished 12th or better in his last 11 starts at the track, compiling a 5.5 average finish during the stretch. More importantly, Biffle has six finishes of third or better, including two wins, in those 11 races. He finished fifth at Kansas earlier this year and should be in the hunt for another win at the 1.5-mile track this weekend.

He has emerged as one of the best drivers at 1.5-mile tracks the past few seasons, and Denny Hamlin should continue to add to his resume this weekend. In fact, he has scored more points in the last 10 races at 1.5-mile tracks than any other driver in the series. Hamlin is also going for the season sweep at Kansas after winning at the track in April, and in three of his last five starts, he has cracked the top five. The numbers point to a big day for him.

The Dark Horses – 2012 Hollywood Casino 400 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

While it is going to take a miracle for Tony Stewart to repeat as champ, it doesn’t mean he can’t win this weekend at Kansas. He is a two-time winner at the track, and he has finished in the top 15 in 11 of his 13 starts. Not to mention that Stewart has a history of success on his side in the Chase. Only Jimmie Johnson has won more races in the playoffs than Stewart, and two of those wins have come at Kansas. A third could be on tap for Sunday.

It has been a long, disappointing year for Carl Edwards, but he could finally make it to Victory Lane this weekend in Kansas. He has finished in the top 10 in eight of his 10 starts at the track, including six straight. Last fall, Edwards finished third at Kansas, and earlier this year, he finished ninth. He hasn’t really dominated a race all year, but he has been finishing at the front consistently enough at Kansas to be in the mix this weekend.

Sleeper Special – 2012 Hollywood Casino 400 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Prior to his start at Kansas earlier this year Martin Truex Jr. failed to crack the top 10 in seven starts at the track. In April, he changed that in a big way, leading a race-high 173 laps and finishing second. Maybe the performance was a fluke, but after having the best car at the track for most of the afternoon in April, Truex is definitely worth considering this weekend when the series returns to Kansas.

Big Name to Avoid – 2012 Hollywood Casino 400 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Despite the fact that he is coming off a win last weekend at Charlotte, Clint Bowyer could struggle a bit this weekend. He has just one top-10 finish in his last six races at Kansas, and earlier this year, he had his worst finish of the year to date in the April race at the track. Bowyer is a Kansas native, and like many drivers at their home-state track, he seems to put too much pressure on himself.
