The Nationwide Series has been coming to Kentucky Speedway since 2001, but for the second consecutive year, a large contingent of Cup regulars have decided to enter the race. It is no coincidence that the Cup drivers began crashing the party in droves the same year that Kentucky joined the Cup Series schedule. Drivers are looking for as much seat time as possible at the Cup Series’ newest addition, and if that means running in the Nationwide event, that’s what they do.

Last year, Cup Series regulars dominated the race, sweeping the top four spots. Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick took turns exchanging the lead most of the night, combining to lead 188 of the 200 laps. Keselowski ultimately established himself as the car to beat, leading 132 laps and picking up his first-career win at Kentucky. Fifth-place finisher Elliott Sadler was the only other driver to lead more than two laps.

The Favorites – 2012 Feed The Children 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

He has made four starts at Kentucky in the Nationwide Series, and Joey Logano has gone to Victory Lane three times. He has also won more races in the series this season than any other driver this season. Logano is on top of his game and heading to one of his best tracks. He looks like a slam dunk pick for bettors.

Defending race winner Brad Keselowski has been a threat to win in all four of his starts at Kentucky. He finished fourth in his track debut in 2008 and third in each of the next two years. Keselowski put the exclamation point on his track record with a win last year, and back-to-back wins at Kentucky is a real possibility.

Kentucky Speedway became a part of the Nationwide schedule in 2001, and Kevin Harvick won the inaugural event at the track. He has made two starts since then, finishing sixth in 2006 and second last year. Harvick has remained a threat to win at Kentucky, even with the gap in between starts. He flat out knows how to get around the track.

The Dark Horses – 2012 Feed The Children 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

He made his first Nationwide start at Kentucky last season, and Elliott Sadler had a strong showing. He finished fifth and was the highest finishing of the series regulars. With a year of experience at the track, Sadler might have the extra knowledge needed to take down the big names and pull off the upset.

Kurt Busch will be making his Kentucky debut this weekend, but he has been running so well in the Nationwide Series lately that it’s tough to rule him out. Kyle Busch Motorsports has been coming on strong, and Busch has been a major beneficiary. He hasn’t finished worse than eighth since early April, and he has finished in the top five in three of his last four starts. Busch is a threat to win this weekend, even without any experience at Kentucky.

Sleeper Special – 2012 Feed The Children 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

In two starts at Kentucky, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has a pair of ninth-place finishes. Even though he has been in a mini slump lately, he is still tied for the series lead in top-five finishes. More importantly, Stenhouse has run well at the 1.5-mile tracks, winning at Las Vegas and Texas. Kentucky has a very similar layout to both of those tracks, making Stenhouse an intriguing sleeper option this weekend.

Big Name to Avoid – 2012 Feed The Children 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Although he has a pair of top-10 finishes in three starts at Kentucky, Justin Allgaier has been trending in the wrong direction. He finished fifth in his track debut, eighth in 2010 and 19th last season. Either the rest of the field is catching up to Allgaier, or he is just losing the handle. Either way, he seems to be getting worse with each start at Kentucky.
