A Nationwide Series race at Michigan can be somewhat tricky. The end of the event tends to sneak up quickly because of the track’s tendency to produce long green flag stretches. Typically, teams don’t make many trips down pit road, and crew chiefs only have limited opportunities to make adjustments. Pit strategy also comes into play, as teams try to complete the 125 event-lap on just two stops. Expect drivers to be aggressive and trying to get to the front as soon as the green flag waves Saturday.

Last season, Brad Keselowski entered the race looking for a Michigan three-peat, but the Roush Fenway Racing duo of Carl Edwards and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. made sure that didn’t happen. The teammates dominated the event, combining to lead 100 of the 125 laps. Edwards led a race-high 62 laps on the afternoon, and although Stenhouse briefly got by him for the lead during the final sprint to the finish, Edwards was able to regain the lead and hold of his teammate for the victory. A fifth-place finish by Trevor Bayne in the race, put all three of Jack Roush’s cars in the top five, solidifying the organization’s status as the team to beat at MIS in any series.

The Favorites – 2012 Alliance Truck Parts 250 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

In five starts at Michigan in the Nationwide Series, Brad Keselowski has compiled a 7.0 average finish and has yet to finish outside the top 15. More importantly, he has gone to Victory Lane in two of the last three races at the track. He is also coming off a win in his most recent start in the Nationwide Series after winning at Charlotte, and no driver in the field this weekend has more wins at MIS than Keselowski.

No driver is hotter in the Nationwide Series than Joey Logano. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver has won three of the last four races and now has a series-leading four victories in 2012. In three starts at Michigan, he has never finished worse than seventh. As well as he has been running lately, he is a threat to win whenever he gets behind the wheel in the Nationwide Series.

The Dark Horses – 2012 Alliance Truck Parts 250 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Mechanical issues the last two races have cost Ricky Stenhouse Jr. the point lead, but he could get back on track in a big way this weekend. After finishing 13th in his Michigan debut in 2011, Stenhouse finished a strong second last season. The ever-improving defending series champ is the one Nationwide regular that can consistently compete with the Cup drivers pulling double duty, and he should be a factor Saturday.

Although he isn’t normally thought of as an elite option in any series, Paul Menard has compiled quite a record at Michigan. In six Nationwide starts at the track, he has notched five top-10 finishes. Menard also has back-to-back top-five finishes at MIS, including a fourth-place run last year. He has never won at the track, but he has been close to changing that for two years in a row.

In his lone Nationwide start at Michigan, Kurt Busch finished a forgettable 21st. However, the start came several years ago, and he has been rock solid while driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports in 2012. In seven Nationwide starts, Busch has six top-10 finishes, including a win. Busch is dealing with a lot of drama off the track, but behind the wheel in the Nationwide Series, he has been a consistent factor near the front.

Sleeper Specials – 2012 Alliance Truck Parts 250 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

After a slow start by his standards, Justin Allgaier is finding his stride in 2012. Four straight finishes of eighth or better have moved him to fifth in the standings, and in the most recent race of the season, he notched his first top-five. The momentum should only help his chances as he heads to Michigan. In three starts at the track, he has never finished outside the top 15, and he finished fourth in 2010.

Rookie Austin Dillon has emerged as a surprise but legitimate contender for the Nationwide Series title, and a win would go a long way to helping his chances. His six top-five finishes are the most of any driver in the series without a win, and it is only a matter of when and not if he will make it to Victory Lane. Dillon should be helped this week by the fact that he is also entered in the Cup Series event. The added practice time could be just what the young driver needs to get over the hump.

Name to Avoid – 2012 Alliance Truck Parts 250 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Sam Hornish Jr. has been rock solid all season long. He sits fourth in points and hasn’t finished outside the top 15 since the season opener at Daytona. However, he has also managed just two top-five finishes in 2012 and has finished outside the top 20 in two starts at Michigan at the Nationwide level. Hornish has definitely revived his career the last couple of seasons, but the larger ovals can still give him issues. He hasn’t reached the level where he can consistently compete for wins.
