2011 Crown Royal Presents The Matthew & Daniel Hansen 400 Picks: Betting on Underdogs for Big Payoffs

2011 Crown Royal 400 Picks: Betting on Underdogs for Big Payoffs – How to Bet on the 2011 Crown Royal 400: The two short track events held thus far in 2011 have been action-packed. Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards had a classic duel at Bristol, and Kevin Harvick used a late race bump-and-run on Dale Earnhardt Jr. to win at Martinsville. While Busch’s win wasn’t surprising, Harvick’s victory was a bit of an upset, and history tells us that just about anything can happen at a short track. The Cup Series heads to Richmond this weekend, and another short track race means bettors have another chance to hit it big with a wildcard pick.

One driver that could deliver a big pay day is Marcos Ambrose. At 100/1 odds, an Ambrose victory would mean a lot of cash for bettors, and he has a strong history of success at Richmond. His 11.8 average finish at the track is the sixth-best mark among active drivers, and he has finished 11th or better in three of his four starts. More importantly, he continues to get better at the track. Ambrose finished ninth in the May event last year and fifth in the fall.

Outside of the road course events, Ambrose’s best runs have come at short tracks. He has finished as high as third at Bristol, as high as fifth at Richmond, and he led 40 laps at Martinsville last fall before being wrecked while running in the top-five. In other words, Ambrose is no stranger to tangling with the big names when it comes to racing at the short tracks. It is only a matter of time before he takes the next step and wins a race, and if it happens this weekend, bettors will want to be in on it.

He isn’t quite the longshot Ambrose is, but at 30/1, Juan Pablo Montoya could still provide a nice payoff for bettors. In three of his last four starts at Richmond, Montoya has finished in the top-10. Last season, he finished sixth in the May event and seventh in the fall. In other words, he is getting better at the track with each start.

Like Ambrose, Montoya is a premier road racer who also excels at short tracks. It is no coincidence that both types of tracks feature tight corners, and it is common for the best road racers to be some of the best short track drivers as well. Montoya already has two road course wins to his credit, and it is only a matter of time before he adds a short track victory to his resume.
