Just three races remain in the 2011 season, and this weekend, the series heads to Texas Motor Speedway. The 1.5-mile track is among the fastest on the schedule, and side-by-side racing at high speeds has created some spectacular wrecks in the fast. The action gets particularly exciting when teams adopt different tire strategies and the running order is shuffled. Bettors shouldn’t be surprised if a late caution impacts the outcome.

Last fall, Denny Hamlin completed a season at Texas that put him in position to win the title. Greg Biffle had the car to beat for most of the night, leading 224 of the 334 laps. However, a decision to take four tires late in the race put him back in traffic in the final laps. Hamlin and Matt Kenseth restarted on the front row during the final restart, and although Kenseth grabbed the lead, Hamlin made a power move to the inside heading into Turn 1. He took the lead and never looked backed.

Earlier this year, Kenseth was all but unstoppable on his way to a dominating victory. He led 169 of the 334 laps, amassing an insurmountable lead down the stretch. Clint Bowyer and Kurt Busch spent some time out front as well, but it was mainly during exchanges on pit road. Kenseth had the car to beat from start to finish, and he ended up in Victory Lane at the end of the night.

The Favorites – 2011 AAA Texas 500 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

He has 11 finishes of 12th or better in his last 12 starts at Texas, and Matt Kenseth is going for a season sweep at the track this weekend. He has 10 top-10 finishes during the stretch, including eight top-five finishes. Kenseth’s dominating victory in the spring event at the track only boosts his value further.

Being the current point leader has its perks, and Carl Edwards will enjoy them this weekend. Other drivers will give him plenty of room because nobody wants to be the guy that accidentally impacts the title fight, and Roush Fenway Racing will be giving Edwards the best equipment in the organization. Not to mention the fact that he is a three-time winner at Texas and finished third at the track earlier this year.

With 10 top-15 finishes in 12 career starts at Texas, Denny Hamlin is among the most consistent performers at the track. Lately, he has been reaching the elite level. Hamlin swept both races at the track last season, and in his last four starts, he has three finishes of second or better.

The Dark Horses – 2011 AAA Texas 500 Lines, Preview and Expert Picks

His lone win at the track came in 2005, but Greg Biffle has been close to getting back to Victory Lane at Texas. He has six straight top-10 finishes at the track, including back-to-back top-five finishes. Last fall, he led more than 200 laps at the track before the wrong pit strategy cost him a win. Biffle will be out to close the deal this weekend.

In four of his last five starts at Texas, Kurt Busch has finished in the top 10. He won at the track in 2009 during the stretch, and he is always a threat to win at 1.5-mile tracks. Busch may be tough to predict at times, but when he hits the setup, he can flat out dominate a race.

Sleepers Specials – 2011 AAA Texas 500 Vegas Odds, Expert Predictions and Free Picks

Last fall, Paul Menard delivered a career-best 10th-place finish at Texas. Earlier this year, he improved that result with a fifth-place run. Menard is definitely trending in the right direction, and the next stop could be Victory Lane.

He has three straight top-15 finishes at Texas, and in his last two starts, David Ragan has finished inside the top 10. He has the added benefit of Roush Fenway Racing equipment at his disposal, and the organization placed three cars in the top five and all four cars in the top seven at Texas earlier this year. Ragan could join his teammates as a winner at the track.

Big Names to Avoid – 2011 AAA Texas 500 Betting Odds, Predictions and Free NASCAR Picks

Not only has Brian Vickers never finished in the top 10 at Texas, but he hasn’t had a top-15 finish in his last seven starts at the track. Throw in his struggles in 2011, and his prospects this weekend are grim.

Although Jamie McMurray had some success at Texas early in his career, he has been in a slump lately. He has finished outside the top 15 in his last five starts at the track, including four finishes of 20th or worse.
