2011 Preakness Stakes Free Picks – Horses to Avoid Betting On at Pimlico

2011 Preakness Stakes Free Picks – Horses to Avoid Betting On at Pimlico: It has been as wide open of a year in horse racing as we have seen in quite some time. Throughout the prep season and even into the Kentucky Derby, favorites have been upset and become afterthoughts, and unknowns have become favorites. That being said, there are still a few horses that can be eliminated for this weekend’s Preakness Stakes based on their history and pedigree. Eliminating even a few horses in a small Preakness field can go a long way to helping bettors hit a big payoff.

At 20/1 odds, Flashpoint has been impressive in his prep races with his speed in short runs. Unfortunately, he doesn’t appear to be built for a race as lengthy as the Preakness. After winning races at six and seven furlongs, Flashpoint finished fourth in his first attempt at an event more than one mile in length. Pimlico will be his longest test to date, and this horse is prime candidate to fade hard down the stretch.

Despite the continued hype surrounding trainer Bob Baffert’s horse Midnight Interlude, bettors should shy away from him and his 15/1 odds to win the Preakness. The horse was easily the biggest bust of the Kentucky Derby, finishing an embarrassing 16th. A jockey change is being pointed to as the potential key to a turnaround, and a smaller field should also help his chances. That being said, a jockey swap isn’t going to transform a horse that wasn’t a factor at Churchill Downs to one that wins at Pimlico. Baffert and his PR department are much better than his horse actually his.

The name Isn’t He Perfect is more than a bit misleading to describe how the horse has performed when he has taken to the track. In fact, perfect is the last adjective that should be used to describe the horse. In 12 starts, the horse has managed just two wins, and both victories came against weak fields. In nine of the races, Isn’t He Perfect finished fifth or worse. The horse hasn’t shown much promise, and as nice as a payout at his 30/1 odds would be, it just isn’t going to happen for him at the Preakness.
