2017 NCAA Football Picks & Predictions – Oklahoma @ Ohio State Odds & Free Pick 9/9/17

The 2nd ranked Ohio State Buckeyes lived up to the preseason hype in their season opener at Indiana with a 49-21 blowout win. The Buckeyes covered the -20.5 spread and looked every bit the legitimate National Title contender that they are forecasted to be this season.

Head coach Urban Meyer had to like what he saw from the Buckeyes offense against Indiana as the unit rolled up an impressive 596 yards of total offense. The unit has 8 starters back from last year’s 31st overall unit and Meyer looks to have made a great hire in bringing in former Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson to be the offensive coordinator.

Ohio State’s offense was led by senior quarterback J.T. Barrett against the Hoosiers as he passed for 304 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions. The offense also was dominant on the ground as it tallied 292 yards rushing led by 181 yards from freshman J.K. Dobbins.

On the defensive side of the ball the Buckeyes showed they still have some work to do. The Buckeyes gave up 437 total yards defensively to Indiana including 420 thru the air. That needs to tighten up and especially against Oklahoma who put up 496 yards passing last week against UTEP.

Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley won his debut after taking over for Bob Stoops this summer with an impressive 56-7 win at home against UTEP last week. The Sooners have now won 11 straight games dating back to last season’s 45-24 home loss against Ohio State on September 17th.

The 5th ranked Sooners were the dominant offensive unit they were projected to be coming into this season last week against UTEP. The unit totaled 676 yards of total offense including 496 thru the air and 180 on the ground.

The offense was led by senior quarterback Baker Mayfield who tossed for 329 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions. The Heisman Trophy contender looks to redeem himself against Ohio State this Saturday after throwing two critical interceptions last year including one returned for a touchdown against Ohio State.

Defensively the Sooners were dominant against UTEP last week as they allowed just 167 total yards. However, stopping UTEP and stopping Ohio State are two totally different animals and the Sooner defense will have to be much better than the unit that finished as the 82nd ranked unit in the nation last season.

Oklahoma @ Ohio State Free Pick: Bet on Ohio State to cover as a -7.5 point favorite. Oklahoma simply doesn’t have the defense to win a game like this on the road and they will be without their best cornerback, sophomore Jordan Parker, who suffered a season ending knee injury last week.
