Odds to Win the 2016 Sun Belt Football Championship

Sun Belt Football Predictions

1. Appalachian State Mountaineers(+250 odds to win Sun Belt) – Head coach Scott Satterfield has done a solid job in his first three seasons at the school with a 22-15 overall record including last season’s 11-2 campaign. Appalahian State went 7-1 in the Sun Belt last season and won the school’s first ever FBS college bowl game as they defeated Ohio 31-29 in the Camelia Bowl. Appalachian State has removed all doubts that they can compete strongly at the FBS level and this season looks like they can win their first ever FBS Conference Championship by winning the Sun Belt. The Mountaineers return 16 starters from last year’s squad including 7 offensively on a unit that finished 26th in total offense nationally last season. Defensively, the Mountaineers were even better last year finishing 11th nationally in total defense and return 9 starters from that outstanding unit. The Mountaineers should be solid on both sides of the ball and they return their leader in junior quarterback Taylor Lamb. Lamb was outstanding last season as he tossed for 2387 yards and 31 touchdowns. Lamb set the school record for touchdown passes and finished a superb 10th in the nation in passer efficiency last season. The offense averaged 36.7 ppg last season and in addition to Lamb the unit also returns senior running back Marcus Cox who rushed for 1423 yards and 9 touchdowns last season. The defense will be just as good as the offense this season as the unit should be able to match or better last season’s mark of allowing just 19.1 ppg. Appalachian State does not play Arkansas State this season and we can’t see anyone else in the league stopping this team. Look for Appalachian State to run the table in the Sun Belt with it’s only two losses of the season being at Tennessee and at home versus Miami-Florida. 2015 Projection 10-2, 8-0 Sun Belt
