2015 Free College Football Picks: Alabama Crimson Tide Football Predictions, Odds and Team Preview

Offense

The 2015 Alabama Crimson Tide offensive unit has some questions as the Tide only welcomes back two returning starters from last year’s offensive unit. Offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin will have to earn his paycheck this year putting together a cohesive and finely tuned offense for Saban with a lot of players that are not accustomed to starting. However, make no mistake, that’s a minor problem for Kiffin to have because he will be loaded with plenty of former 5 star and 4 star recruits to plug in and play.

The Tide will be replacing their starting quarterback as Blake Sims had departed and they’ll also have to work in three new starters on the offensive line. The quarterback position is still not set in stone but the early leader to win the starting job appears to be senior Jake Coker but redshirt freshman David Cornwall did come on in spring practices and could still very well end up taking the most snaps for Saban and company this season. The o-line only returns sophomore left tackle Cam Robinson and senior center Ryan Kelly so the o-line may be a work in progress early on in the season for Alabama.

As for the receieving unit and running game, the Tide will have a whole new set of players in both. The receiving unit should be led by former high school all-americans in sophomore Robert Foster and junior Chris Black, while true freshman Calvin Ridley will also get plenty of snaps and has the talent to be the next superstar receiver for the Tide. As for the running back position, junior running back Derrick Henry looks to carry the load after splitting the carries the past couple of seasons.

Defense

Alabama has always been one of the best defensive units in college football under Nick Saban and defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and this year should be no different. Alabama returns seven starters fro last year’s defensive unit. Last year’s Tide defense finished ranked 3rd in the SEC and 6th nationally as they only allowed 18.4 points per game and finished 3rd in the SEC and 12th nationally in total yards allowed with 328.4 yards per game.

The 2015 Alabama defense will be stout upfront with three returning starters on the defensive line. Senior end Jarran Reed, junior nose guard A’Shawn Robinson and junior end Jonathan Allen will lead a superb unit that is big enough to stop the best running games in the SEC and country plus athletic and fast enough to create pressure in the backfield and get sideline to sideline against the nation’s top spread offensive attacks.

The linebacking corps returns two starters in senior ILB Reggie Ragland and senior OLB Denzell Devall plus former 5 star recruit junior Reuben Foster should step inside and help the Tide have one of the most formidable units in the SEC and country. The Tide also return two starters in the secondary in senior corner Cyrus Jones and junior safety Eddie Jackson. The secondary was subpar and an issue for the Tide last season so that is the one question mark for the 2015 Tide defense that we would like to see answered early on if we are to continue to put our money down on Alabama to do big things in the SEC and in the national landscape this season.

Special Teams

The kicking game is strong in the punting department with the return of sophomore JK Scott. However, the place kicking game is still a question mark for Alabama this season with the return of junior Adam Griffith who missed 7 of his last 12 field goals to close last season.

2015 Alabama Football Predictions

Alabama was embarassed by Ohio State in the inaugural College Football Playoff last season as they gave up 42 points in a 42-35 loss. You just know Saban worked these guys all offseason and in the spring letting them know all about it. Things will change big time this season in Tuscaloosa and we expect to see a very motivated, determined and take no prisoners Alabama Crimson Tide football team. We look for them to go 11-1 at minimum in the regular season, win the SEC Championship Game and go on to challenge for the National Title.
