2015 College Football Picks & Predictions – Arizona State vs Texas A&M Odds & Free Picks

Head coach Todd Graham enters his 4th season as the Arizona State Sun Devils’ head coach and he has done a fabulous job to date. Graham is 28-12 in his first three seasons on the job including an impressive 10-3 season last year that had Arizona State going 6-3 in PAC 12 play and capping off the season in style with a 36-31 victory over Duke in the Sun Bowl. Graham should be in business once again this season to get Arizona State in the double digit wins category as he welcomes back 12 starters from last years team including 5 on offense and 7 on defense.

Arizona State’s strength over the past few seasons has been their high octane offense. Last season the unit was 16th nationally and 3rd in the PAC 12 as it averaged 36.9 points per game. The offense will be replacing a three year starter at quarterback but has a great replacement lined up in senior Mike Bercovici. Bercovici was outstanding in the time he played last year as he threw for 1,445 yards and 12 touchdowns on only 186 pass attempts as he showed that he could handle Graham’s offensive system and he should have a real solid year this season for the Sun Devils.

Head coach Kevin Sumlin is also entering his 4th season as head coach of the Texas A&M Aggies and he’ll be looking to climb another step up the SEC’s ladder this season with what he hopes is an improved defense. Sumlin’s Aggies went 8-5 overall including 3-5 in the SEC last season but ended up closing out the season in style with a 45-37 victory over West Virginia in the Liberty Bowl. The Aggies welcome back 12 starters this season including 6 on both sides of the ball as they look to make a move in the always tough SEC West and become a true national force.

The Aggies have been known to have a high flying and quick scoring attack offensively since Sumlin arrived in College Station a few years ago. Last season the offense was 26th nationally and 5th in the SEC as it scored 35.2 points per game. That’s the good news. The bad news is the defense continued to be a weakness and it was 75th nationally and 11th in the SEC as it surrendered 28.1 points per game. Sumlin and the school have tried to rectify that this season by bringing in highly respected defensive coordinator John Chavis from LSU to the tune of $1.7 million per year to get Texas A&M’s defense elite once again. That won’t happen over night but expect the Aggies defense to be much better this season under Chavis.

This matchup appears close on paper and should be a well played and fought game throughout. Having said that, we look for Texas A&M to get the job done and win the game outright and cover the -1.5 spread. The game isn’t on campus at Texas A&M but it will be a virtual home game for Texas A&M in front of the pro-Aggie crowd in Houston. We look for a much improved Aggies defense this season under Chavis and we feel the defense will be just good enough tonight to get the stop it needs late to close the game out.
