Odds to Win the 2015 American Athletic Football Championship and AAC East/West Divisions

American Athletic East Division Prediction

1. Cincinnati Bearcats(+230 odds to win AAC) – Head coach Tommy Tuberville is 18-8 overall in his two seasons at Cincinnati and should have his best offensive unit yet this 2015 season. The Bearcats finished 9-4 overall including 7-1 in AAC play last season and return 13 starters this year with 8 on offense and 5 on defense. The offense was explosive last season and finished 27th in the nation in total offense and should only get better this season with the return of junior quarterback Gunnier Kiel. Kiel passed for 3,254 yards and 31 touchdowns last season and has his top four wideouts returning along with his starting left tackle, center and right tackle. The sky is the limit offensively for the Bearcats in 2015. Defensively, Cincinnati was a mess last season finishing a dismal 96th in the nation in total defense and they’ll have to improve if they want to win the AAC and a bowl game this season. The good news is Cincinnati returns 3 of their starters in the secondary so they should be improved against the pass but the front seven is still a big question mark and the jury is out on new defensive coordinator Steve Clinkscale who was promoted from secondary/cornerbacks coach. 2015 Projection 9-4, 6-2 AAC

American Athletic West Division Prediction

1. Memphis Tigers(+280 odds to win AAC) – Head coach Justin Fuente led the Tigers to an impressive 10-3 overall record including 7-1 in AAC play along with a 55-48 win over BYU in the Miami Beach Bowl last season. The Tigers were the AAC Champions last season and have a strong chance to repeat as champs again in 2015. The Tigers welcome back 10 returning starters including 7 on offense and 3 on defense. Offensively, the Tigers were a solid 46th in the nation last season in total offense and should match those numbers this season again with the return of junior quarterback Paxton Lynch. Lynch was solid last year as he tossed 22 touchdowns to go along with 3,031 yards passing and the junior signal caller should once again have Memphis moving the chains and putting up enough points to help their stout defense. Defensively, the Tigers were an impressive 27th in the nation in total defense last season and will have trouble matching that this season with only 3 returning starters but they still have plenty of talent to rank in the Top 50 nationally and give themselves a strong shot at winning the West Division and repeating as AAC champs. 2015 Projection 9-4, 6-2 AAC

Rest of AAC West Division Predictions for 2015 Season

2015 American Athletic Football Championship Game

Cincinnati Bearcats vs Memphis Tigers – These two teams play in the regular season in Memphis on September 24th and the Bearcats will be looking to enact some big time revenge for a 41-14 beatdown they took at home last season against the Tigers. Cincinnati might have the edge in the regular season due to the chip on their shoulder but all bets will be off in the AAC Championship Game if these two teams hook up again like we expect. Look for Memphis’ superior defense to be the difference in the title game as Cincinnati’s defense is extremely below average and can’t be counted on to get the critical stops it will need to win the AAC Championship Game against a sound Memphis squad. Memphis 38 Cincinnati 28
